Foreword: A World of Stories, A World of You
Hello, and welcome to Wonderland Bedtime Stories! My name is Etienne Noumen, and I’m a software engineer with a passion for storytelling and a heart full of bedtime memories.
As a father of four, reading to my children has been one of life’s greatest joys. It’s a chance to spark their imaginations, introduce them to new cultures, and create a special bond before drifting off to dreamland.
But something always bothered me. Many of the bedtime stories we read lacked the beautiful diversity of the world we live in. Where were the heroes and heroines who looked like my children, with their unique backgrounds and dreams?
This yearning for inclusivity is the seed from which Wonderland Bedtime Stories blossomed. As a software engineer with over 20 years of experience, I saw the potential of technology to bridge this gap. Here, we use cutting-edge AI to recreate traditional tales and weave brand new stories that celebrate the richness of different cultures and ethnicities.
Wonderland Bedtime Stories is more than just bedtime tales; it’s a world where every child can see themselves reflected in the magic of storytelling. It’s a journey to faraway lands, where heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and skin tones. It’s a celebration of education, sports, and the power of inclusion – values I hold dear as a father and a human being.
So, snuggle up with your little ones, open a book, and embark on a wondrous adventure together. We believe that within these pages, every child will find their own unique reflection, a spark of inspiration, and a world of dreams waiting to be explored.
In a village by the savannah, Nia, a curious girl, was drawn to an ancient baobab, known as the Whispering Baobab. It whispered wisdom from ages past. One evening, the tree shared its stories with Nia, telling of wildlife, seasons, and village life beneath its branches. It imparted lessons of respect and harmony with nature. Entrusted with these tales, Nia became the village storyteller, spreading the baobab’s wisdom, linking past and future with each story.

The Whispering Baobab:
Wonderland Bedtime Adventures: The Whispering Baobab
Welcome, little dreamers, to another enchanting episode of “Wonderland Bedtime Adventures.” Snuggle up in your cozy blankets as we journey to a magical village on the edge of a sprawling savannah. Our tale tonight is about a young girl named Nia and a very special tree. Are you ready? Let’s begin. Once upon a time, in a world not too far from our own, there was a small village where the sun kissed the earth goodnight with rays of gold. In this village lived a young girl named Nia, known for her sparkling eyes and a heart full of wonder. Nia’s favorite place to be was outside, exploring the vast lands that stretched beyond her home. Her most beloved spot was under an ancient baobab tree, grand and wise. Its massive trunk was wider than any house in the village, and it was called the Whispering Baobab. The villagers would often say, with a twinkle in their eye, that this tree whispered the wisdom of ages to those who would listen. And listen Nia did! She visited the baobab every day, hoping to catch its mystical murmurs. One warm evening, as the world turned honeyed hues of sunset, Nia sat under the great tree. The savannah was alive with the wild calls of animals, and the baobab’s leaves played a gentle song in the breeze. That’s when it happened. A faint whisper tickled Nia’s ear. “Welcome, Nia,” said the baobab, its voice deep and slow, like the ancient earth itself. Nia’s eyes widened with joy as she answered, “I knew you were special, Whispering Baobab. Please share your stories with me.” Oh, the tales the baobab told! Stories of majestic wildlife, of changing seasons, and of children, just like yourselves, playing under its branches. It spoke of tough times and rain-filled days, of laughter, and the dance of life on the savannah. The baobab also taught Nia something very important. It told her to respect nature, to preserve the environment, and to live peacefully with all creatures. As the stars blinked sleepily above, the baobab whispered a secret to Nia, “You are now the keeper of my stories. Share them, teach them, for our lives are as interconnected as the roots of a baobab tree.” With the first light of dawn, Nia returned to her village, ready to share the baobab’s wisdom. She became the Storyteller of the Savannah, a title she wore with pride, spreading the whispers and the love for nature to everyone. And so, dear listeners, as you drift into your dreams tonight, imagine the wide, starry skies of the savannah and the ancient Whispering Baobab sharing its secrets with you. Remember, like the roots of the baobab, we are all connected in the great circle of life. Goodnight, and may your dreams be filled with wonderland adventures.

Which one is better to live in – Calgary or Edmonton? Why?
Do you feel like a big city slicker or a small town girl? Edmonton or Calgary – which one is better to live in? Both cities have their pros and cons, but when it comes down to it, we think Calgary takes the cake. Read on to find out why!
Calgary and Edmonton are the 2 biggest cities in Alberta, Canada. The question is which one is better to live in, Calgary or Edmonton? Why?
It is difficult to say which city is better to live in, as it ultimately depends on an individual’s personal preferences and priorities. Both Calgary and Edmonton have their own unique features and attractions, and which city is better for you will depend on what you are looking for in a place to live.
Here are some factors to consider when deciding between Calgary and Edmonton:
Location: Calgary is located in southern Alberta, near the Rocky Mountains, while Edmonton is located in central Alberta. This can be a factor to consider if you enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing, or if you prefer a more urban environment.
Cost of living: Both Calgary and Edmonton have a relatively low cost of living compared to other major cities in Canada. However, Calgary tends to be more expensive than Edmonton, particularly in terms of housing costs.
Employment: Both cities have strong economies and a diverse range of industries, including oil and gas, healthcare, and technology. Unemployment rates in both cities are generally low.
Climate: Calgary and Edmonton both have cold winters and warm summers, with Calgary generally experiencing cooler temperatures and more snowfall.
Ultimately, the decision of which city is better to live in will depend on your personal circumstances and what you are looking for in a place to call home. It may be helpful to research and compare the two cities in more detail to determine which one is a better fit for you.
What are the pros and cons of Calgary vs Edmonton.
As someone who has lived in both cities for more than 3 years and is still living in Calgary:
Weather: you have more sunshine and less harsh winter in Calgary with occasional positive temperature in the middle of the winter because of the Chinook winds: Calgary wins
Cost of life: Edmonton rent, home ownership, food, clothing is slightly cheaper than same items in Calgary: Edmonton wins
Job Opportunities: more blue collar jobs in Edmonton, more white collar jobs in Calgary: tie
Education: Edmonton has one of the top university in Canada called University of Alberta. University of Calgary has a first class business school called Hayskane school of business. Edmonton wins.
City’s architecture: Calgary seems newer, nicely architected and just more beautiful to me by far: Calgary wins
People: just the same to me, no difference: tie
Size and population: Calgary (1.3 million people, 825 km2) is larger and have more people than Edmonton (1 million people, 684 km2): I won’t call this a win
Mountains and lakes :Banff National Park, Lake Louise, Jasper National Park, Waterton Lakes National Park, are all closer to Calgary than Edmonton. Calgary is 1 hour from Banff, and day trips to the mountains are very common. Edmonton is 4 hours from Jasper, and trips to the mountains are more of a long weekend activity: Calgary Wins
Summer festivities: Both cities have great and similar festivals, but Calgary hosts the greatest western festival on earth in July called the Stampede. Sylvan Lake is halfway between Calgary and Edmonton. Calgary wins.
Sunshine: Calgary has way more sunshine that Edmonton. In fact, Calgary is amongst the top city with sunshine exposure in the entire country. Sunshine is happiness. Calgary wins.
Politics: Both cities are economically conservative. Edmonton is a little bit more socially liberal than Calgary. Who cares? Tie.
Sports: Flames(NHL)and Stampeders(CFL)in Calgary, Oiler(NHL) and Eskimos(CFL) in Edmonton. Several amateur leagues, indoor and outdoor facilities for soccer, hockey, basketball, football and baseball in both cities; ShowUpAndPlay in Calgary, ShowUpAndPlay in Edmonton : Tie
Cleanliness: Calgary is one of the cleanness cities in the world. I am in awe myself whenever I walk downtown and in my neighbourhood of Walden. Calgary wins by far.
Public Transit: Calgary C-Train has 3 lines and covers all 4 quadrants of the city(NW, SW,SE,NE) with multiple park and rides location at various C-Train stations. There are buses in almost every neighborhoods in Calgary connecting you to the nearest C-Train station. Edmonton Transit Services (ETS) provides service on buses and light-rail transit within the City of Edmonton limits, in addition to Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, and the Edmonton Garrison at Namao. It also provides connections to suburban transit services. Calgary Wins.
With all that in mind, I’ll choose Calgary any day.

I'm looking for some recommendations for a personal tax accountant here in Calgary. I have a home, just bought another (sort of with my partner), have a small business that doesn't make money yet, and a career path with upward trajectory. There's a couple minor whacky scenarios I have questions about, and in general looking for a fee only advisor to help me optimize. Thanks in advance, r/Calgary! submitted by /u/Particular-Hat-8076 [link] [comments]

My dearest follow Edmontonians; I am on a search for a bucket of mini donuts. To share? No. Just for me. No I don't want a bag or two bags. I want a BUCKET. A few years back, on Canada Day, due to an uncomfortable situation with an ex, I missed my opportunity to get a bucket of mini donuts. Their brother came back with evidence of their existence. Something my inner fat kid deeply desired. I have never stopped thinking of that bucket of delights. Does anyone have a lead on where I can get this? The food trucks I find never have a schedule. Edit -don't want to support k days. Ie. Don't want to spend money to have the privilege of eating somewhere. submitted by /u/TheBlueTegu [link] [comments]

Hello, this fall I'm going into the 4th year of my bachelor's Majoring in Computer Science and I need to get a job. I did an 8-month software developer internship which ended before the summer, and before that I worked at an after-school place that teaches kids computer science. I have tried applying to come back there but I have yet to hear of any open positions from my old boss. I am now trying to find a part-time job that is relatively casual part-time and can fit well with my upcoming school workload. I've been tutoring my cousins in math for a while now and I really enjoy it and feel that I'm pretty good at it, tutoring compsci would be a dream but I don't seem to hear a lot about it. It looks like I'm not the first compsci student to make a post exactly like this, but is there any advice on how to get started? Thanks! submitted by /u/Exonificate [link] [comments]
Hello folks! I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good value auto body shop? I have an older truck circa 2003 which I really only drive for work as a tradesperson. I am looking for a couple of dents, oxidized paint and small rust spots to get addressed. I don’t need the fixes to be even close to perfect. I just need to keep the rust away and have the truck to look decent from 20’ away. New trucks are expensive and mechanically my truck works well for its age. I’d like to keep it going for as long as I can, or until I can afford to buy a hybrid truck with a decent size truck bed. Thanks, I really appreciate any suggestions! Good Afternoon, I'm taking possession of my first home in Beaumont the second week of August, and I am looking for some good plumber and electrician recommendations. I've heard good things about Action Ace Plumbing but have struggled to find solid contact info. I would prefer to deal with small plumbing or electrical operations than with the big chain companies. But I'll take recommendations for either. Thanks *Edit" Just want to say thank you to all who commented with their recommendations! Thanks submitted by /u/BoutThemApples [link] [comments]

Basically, the fridge in our rental has not been working properly since the July long weekend. We first realized this when we noticed the water in our ice cube trays was not freezing. We pulled the fridge out and cleaned all the intakes thinking it was a circulation issue. This did not solve the issue. We sent a text to the property manager and told him what was happening. I then noticed that the items in the fridge itself weren't very cold. Used a digital meat thermometer with a probe to check the temperature of the freezer and fridge. The freezer was about 4 degrees and the fridge was about 12 degrees. Most of the items in the fridge were spoiled including a tube of lean ground beef from Costco (to help you understand the size), a Costco pack of chicken thighs, milk, eggs, and condiments, etc. It all had to be thrown out. We had to reach out several times before getting a response where he said he would send a maintenance person to look into things. On the 16th, the maintenance person came and was here all of 5 minutes to look at the fridge and tell me the appliance was low on Freon and we would need a new fridge. Then he left. The next day the property manager asked for the measurements for the space to get a new fridge. Finally, on the 24th he let us know he ordered a new fridge. The word ordered made me curious so I asked for a timeline on arrival. He told me the 30th. While I recognize that a solution is in progress, this feels unreasonable and there is no sense of urgency on the property managers part. We are out money for all the groceries that needed thrown out plus the inconvenience of not having a fridge (we've used the freezer for some items since it was at 4 degrees and have a small mini fridge of our own). This has resulted in a lot more planning around meals with the reduced space and also more takeout to minimize using the limited space. I've been looking through the RTA and have found some related information but hoping to understand a bit better. From the RTA, I know it's the landlord's responsibility to: - not disturb the tenant’s peaceful enjoyment of the rental premises (for example, not to bother the tenant beyond what is necessary to do the landlord’s business) - ensure the rental premises are habitable at the beginning and throughout the tenancy (for example, there are no bed bugs and the heat is working) - habitable means the rental premises meet the Minimum Housing and Health Standards under the Public Health Act and Housing Regulation I've looked over the Housing Regulations as well and they state: Food Preparation Facilities (a) Every housing premises shall be provided with a food preparation area, which includes: (i) a kitchen sink that is supplied with potable hot and cold water and suitably sized to allow preparation of food, washing utensils and any other cleaning operation; and (ii) cupboards or other facilities suitable for the storage of food; and (iii) a counter or table used for food preparation which shall be of sound construction and furnished with surfaces that are easily cleaned; and (iv) a stove and a refrigerator that are maintained in a safe and proper operating condition. The refrigerator shall be capable of maintaining a temperature of 4 degrees C. (40 degrees F). So my question is: Do I have any recourse in asking for compensation for this? I'm thinking some kind of discount in rent for August or September that would be reasonable for what we have lost in cost of groceries. Where do we go from here? Probably contact the property management company? (We've been communicating with an individual who has been our go to for our entire lease(s) since December 2021.) submitted by /u/Hermione-in-Calgary [link] [comments]
I recently drove this section and found it strange that the off ramps from eastbound Highway 1/16 Ave NW to both northbound and southbound Stoney Trail have 60 Km/h speed limits. This feels slow compared to the other systems interchanges on Stoney Trail where the speed limits are 80 Km/h. The road design seems like it would support a higher speed limit. I haven't driven the other movements so perhaps all of the ramps have this speed limit. What gives? https://www.google.com/maps/@51.0881675,-114.2464703,3a,41.4y,88.35h,89.58t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sDa5iimKl2Iu27TtKd51icQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DDa5iimKl2Iu27TtKd51icQ%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D88.34830205349155%26pitch%3D0.4182115488324598%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu submitted by /u/CheeseSandwich [link] [comments]

Partner went to Taste of Edmonton and had a delicious Margherita Pizza from a place called Diavola Pizza. Came home all excited about it. We search online for a website, we search on Google maps, and it has no online presence anywhere. I thought maybe it was a ghost kitchen so I checked the food delivery apps but it's not there either. So, did my partner just have a delicious tactile and gustatory hallucination? Or is it a real place that exists somewhere in Edmonton? Does anybody know anything about it? Edit: So, somebody reached out to me in DM and told me that it is currently a food truck and that's why there is no online presence yet, but they are working on creating a brick and mortar store. My friends and I were saying our goodbyes after a dinner last night on whyte when we were shot at by a pellet gun, We were on whyte in front of cafe mosaics east of 109th street, It was 9:20 pm, we couldn’t see into the vehicle as they were slightly ahead of us, more in front of the Boston Pizza, they were in what I think was a late 90s dark blue with light blue paneling on the bottom half GMC Yukon, We are all fine, it was a quick burst of shots and then the light changed and the car drove away, We were just wondering if this happened to anyone else? submitted by /u/Jules-780 [link] [comments]

There are several specific things that organizations can do to build more diverse technical teams:
Review and revise hiring practices: Organizations can review and revise their hiring practices to ensure that they are not biased against certain groups. This can include using standardized job applications, using objective criteria for evaluating candidates, and diversifying the pool of candidates by actively recruiting from underrepresented groups.
Offer employee resources and support: Organizations can offer resources and support to employees from underrepresented groups to help them succeed and thrive in their roles. This can include providing access to mentorship, networking opportunities, and professional development resources.
Promote diversity and inclusion: Organizations can make a concerted effort to promote diversity and inclusion within the company culture. This can include training employees on unconscious bias, fostering an inclusive workplace culture, and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Measure and track diversity: Organizations can measure and track diversity within their technical teams to identify areas where they can improve. This can include collecting and analyzing data on the demographics of their employees, and setting diversity and inclusion goals and targets.
By taking these specific steps, organizations can work towards building more diverse technical teams and creating a more inclusive workplace culture.
