Which one is better to live in – Calgary or Edmonton? Why?
It is difficult to say which city is better to live in, as it ultimately depends on an individual’s personal preferences and priorities. Both Calgary and Edmonton have their own unique features and attractions, and which city is better for you will depend on what you are looking for in a place to live.
Here are some factors to consider when deciding between Calgary and Edmonton:
Location: Calgary is located in southern Alberta, near the Rocky Mountains, while Edmonton is located in central Alberta. This can be a factor to consider if you enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and skiing, or if you prefer a more urban environment.
Cost of living: Both Calgary and Edmonton have a relatively low cost of living compared to other major cities in Canada. However, Calgary tends to be more expensive than Edmonton, particularly in terms of housing costs.
Employment: Both cities have strong economies and a diverse range of industries, including oil and gas, healthcare, and technology. Unemployment rates in both cities are generally low.
Climate: Calgary and Edmonton both have cold winters and warm summers, with Calgary generally experiencing cooler temperatures and more snowfall.
Ultimately, the decision of which city is better to live in will depend on your personal circumstances and what you are looking for in a place to call home. It may be helpful to research and compare the two cities in more detail to determine which one is a better fit for you.
As someone who has lived in both cities for more than 3 years and is still living in Calgary:
With all that in mind, I’ll choose Calgary any day.

Anyone remember Wildernest Dream Cafe at Inglewood? Gaddamn, I miss that place. The quality of food was just so good. I went there for years but hadn't the chance to before it closed down. I miss that Cafe so much, it held a lot of memories and damn, the owner, Dean, was a fascinating guy. If you ever read this, sir. Your food changed my life. Pics from someone else's cuz that was time before phones autosynced when you got a new one. Lol. I regretfully lost all of the pics I've had from that Cafe. Good times. Hi folks! Does anyone know a place in The Beltline where I could buy an edition of the New Yorker magazine? I have had a subscription to the New Yorker for the last two years. It's very expensive ($200USD), and, as a weekly magazine, I found a lot of issues didn't get touched. I finally made the sad decision to cancel. I would love to be able to pick one up every now and then if I'm keen to read it. Does anyone know a grocery store or bookstore or magazine/newspaper shop specifically in The Beltline that sells them? I have been keeping my eye out but haven't spied any. As a side note, I am VERY aware of electronic versions that are available. I can even get it free from the Calgary Public Library. submitted by /u/leosrain [link] [comments]

Only you can prevent forest fires! So the other day my local radio station has a commercial that states 6/10 fires in Alberta are started by humans. But doesn't give any tips on how to be fire smart? If your building a campfire, build a hole and have water on hand, never leave the fire unattended and make sure to put it out completely before the nights out. Cigarettes, don't flick burning cigs from your car, have an ashtray with water in the vehicle to out them out. Like this is how the majority of them are starting right? Other then our local Pyros. submitted by /u/Every_Fox3461 [link] [comments]

Are there any flow arts people in Edmonton anymore? I used to take lessons and go to camps before COVID happened and since then it feels like the community has disappeared. I haven't seen anyone offering lessons or group meets. I recently got back into the flow arts and it would be nice to have others to connect with in my own city. submitted by /u/Mammoth-Guidance4296 [link] [comments]
I adopted an approximately two year old Lhasa Apso dog three weeks ago. He is quite smart and sweet most the the time. But we both need some training in his stranger danger barking in the car, recall , but especially on his leash reactivity. We are bonding well, but I am learning that he will growl, bark, and lunge at different random people at random times. I don’t always catch all the signs that he will react because there is no pattern to it. I try to turnaround, give him distance, but I am not always quick enough. I love him dearly already, but I’m embarrassed and sad that walking him has become a dreaded chore. If you have a recommendation for in class dog training or if you are a dog trainer, please help by posting here. Thank you in advance! Well trained humans will have happy dogs! 🐶😄 submitted by /u/Tiny-Gur-4356 [link] [comments]

I’m 28 (F, bi) and ready to settle down more, now having a mid-career position at my job, so I wanna know, where are we meeting people in real life? I’ve been on apps and trying online for probably the past 6-7 years, and while there’s been some fun out of it, it’s not really meeting my goals in what i’m looking for in a partner as I’m less interested in meeting for dates/short term relationships and am wanting someone who’s more long-term. That being said, I haven’t done a lot of dating and meeting others in person first since like age 16-18, so I’d really appreciate some tips on where to find folks, and start building those circles/communities to hopefully find a connection! The only place I wouldn’t be open to meeting someone is work, as I like my job at the moment and don’t think it’s appropriate in that position! submitted by /u/Cautious_Major_6693 [link] [comments]
I just saw a smallish coyote being chased by a Malamute - wearing a collar, obviously someone's pet - across Saskatchewan Drive into the river valley. I feel afraid for both animals. Hoping the dog's owner sees this and knows where to look for their dog. The coyotes have a den close to Groat bridge, I am told. submitted by /u/AuthorityFiguring [link] [comments]

I bought a printer from Staples in Edmonton South Commons and when I opened the box at home, I saw that the wrong printer was in the box (it wasn't even the same brand of printer). It had a return sticker(not a shipping label) on the top of the printer with a barcode and information about why it was returned, it's state, and cost, so it looked like it was reviewed by an employee and then put into the incorrect box. I went back to Staples today (the day after buying the printer) and they said they needed to speak to head office to refund it so I could come back tomorrow to possibly get this resolved, like as if I was the one trying to scam them. I left with the wrong printer and who knows if I'll get my refund. I don't want to go back to that store ever again; they were so incredibly rude. I can only assume they are putting open box items back on shelves, so learn from me and please open the box before leaving the store to check that you are getting the item you actually wanted to buy. submitted by /u/OkContribution3985 [link] [comments]

I was curious if the Loblaws boycott was having a visible impact in Calgary yet. I did a quick Google maps search of all the Superstore locations in the city and it looks like all of them have significantly less traffic than usual right now (about 1pm on a Sunday). Good work YYC! Love or hate Loblaws, this is a great first step in pushing against food oligopolies in Canada. submitted by /u/Remarkable_Glycan [link] [comments]

I remember lining up outside Sears to meet Darth Vader and get a free autographed picture. I'm thinking it must have been 1980 or '81. Thanks and have a great day, folks! Edit: it was November 6, 1980 Here's a copy of the ad from the November 5th Edmonton Journal advertising it: https://flic.kr/p/2pPiPh3 And here's an article in the paper talking about it (it turns out there were 8000 - 10,000 kids that showed up that snowy November 6, 1980) https://flic.kr/p/2pPqfZv submitted by /u/catfishman [link] [comments]
tldr: Scam caller posing as fido telecom and they have my personal info and try to transfer me to unknown police station before I hanged up Hi all, I just want to make a post about the scam calls I received today posing as Fido customer service agent. They called me form following numbers: (both showed up as Toll Free Serv) 1-866-859-7720 1-866-686-8887 Now I know their numbers can change on a dim by the fact that they called me from two different numbers, so please beware of their tactics. They first told me that they called me from "Feedo telecom" and they are calling to let me know that my number has been used to solicit donations to people from China. After I asked why would people from China getting spams from my number, then they corrected themselves said Chinese people from Canada. That's my first red flag as I have never heard of this telecom company and why would they be calling me (even with call control) to kindly inform me about this situation. I asked her about the company name, she spelled it out and it turns out to be fido. Then in an attempt to boost her credibility, she has my name, phone number and address and wants to verify my id. I refused and told her I don't know who she is and I am not about to give her my Id. She said my info could possible be leaked via online app or when making purchases online, which I told her it happens all the time so I am not shocked by it. Then I told her if she has any complain please sent me an formal complaint in writing then I can bring it to my local police station and register this case. She said why don't I just give you the information orally and proceed to read out some "violation number 1647...., date of April 25, 2024, and application number etc". She kept using my name and trying to be sympatric about my situation and she can transfer me to the local police station in some weirdly named airport. I said no, send me a formal mail and I can deal with it. She refused and trying very hard to transfer me, then I hanged up. With a quick search on google, I found out it's a common scam for these fraudsters to post as fido customer service and trying to solicit personal information. I told my wife about this and it seems like she got these calls from these ppl and she blocked them straight away. So please be aware of their tactics as these scam callers is going around! submitted by /u/Hotfishy [link] [comments]

My husband recently got his learners, so I’m trying to find him a drivers ed teacher. He’s still scared shitless at the idea of driving so I was wondering if there are any that specialize in helping nervous drivers specifically? I took drivers ed as a teenager any my instructor was mean and loud, i’d like to avoid that for him. edit: a lot of people are saying he shouldn’t be driving, or assuming my plan is to get him on the highway going 100 for his first time driving, to which i have a few points: 1) He’s anxious about everything. in the past when i got him to try things he was scared about, he very quickly realized it wasn’t as bad as he thought. He has a good track record for overcoming his anxiety after trying things. 2) saying that someone should not even try to learn how to drive if they’re scared is kind of dumb to me. If you avoid even TRYING things because you’re scared, you won’t go very far in life. 3) Obviously we’re not going to go on highways or downtown. I was thinking of starting in big empty parking lots at like 5am. submitted by /u/madoodlem [link] [comments]
