Exam content
Response types
There are two types of questions on the exam:
– Multiple choice: Has one correct response and three incorrect responses (distractors)
– Multiple response: Has two or more correct responses out of five or more response options
Select one or more responses that best complete the statement or answer the question. Distractors, or incorrect answers, are response options that a candidate with incomplete knowledge or skill might choose.
Distractors are generally plausible responses that match the content area.
Unanswered questions are scored as incorrect; there is no penalty for guessing. The exam includes 50 questions that will affect your score.
Unscored content
The exam includes 15 unscored questions that do not affect your score. AWS collects information about candidate performance on these unscored questions to evaluate these questions for future use as scored questions. These unscored questions are not identified on the exam.
Exam results
The AWS Certified Developer – Associate (DVA-C01) exam is a pass or fail exam. The exam is scored against a minimum standard established by AWS professionals who follow certification industry best practices and guidelines.
Your results for the exam are reported as a scaled score of 100–1,000. The minimum passing score is 720.
Your score shows how you performed on the exam as a whole and whether you passed. Scaled scoring models help equate scores across multiple exam forms that might have slightly different difficulty levels.
Your score report could contain a table of classifications of your performance at each section level. This information is intended to provide general feedback about your exam performance. The exam uses a compensatory scoring model, which means that you do not need to achieve a passing score in each section. You need to pass only the overall exam.
Each section of the exam has a specific weighting, so some sections have more questions than other sections have. The table contains general information that highlights your strengths and weaknesses. Use caution when interpreting section-level feedback.
Content outline
This exam guide includes weightings, test domains, and objectives for the exam. It is not a comprehensive listing of the content on the exam. However, additional context for each of the objectives is available to help guide your preparation for the exam. The following table lists the main content domains and their weightings. The table precedes the complete exam content outline, which includes the additional context.
The percentage in each domain represents only scored content.

In this AWS tutorial, we are going to discuss how we can make the best use of AWS services to build a highly scalable, and fault tolerant configuration of EC2 instances. The use of Load Balancers and Auto Scaling Groups falls under a number of best practices in AWS, including Performance Efficiency, Reliability and high availability.
Before we dive into this hands-on tutorial on how exactly we can build this solution, let’s have a brief recap on what an Auto Scaling group is, and what a Load balancer is.
Autoscaling group (ASG)
An Autoscaling group (ASG) is a logical grouping of instances which can scale up and scale down depending on pre-configured settings. By setting Scaling policies of your ASG, you can choose how many EC2 instances are launched and terminated based on your application’s load. You can do this based on manual, dynamic, scheduled or predictive scaling.
Elastic Load Balancer (ELB)
An Elastic Load Balancer (ELB) is a name describing a number of services within AWS designed to distribute traffic across multiple EC2 instances in order to provide enhanced scalability, availability, security and more. The particular type of Load Balancer we will be using today is an Application Load Balancer (ALB). The ALB is a Layer 7 Load Balancer designed to distribute HTTP/HTTPS traffic across multiple nodes – with added features such as TLS termination, Sticky Sessions and Complex routing configurations.
Getting Started
First of all, we open our AWS management console and head to the EC2 management console.
We scroll down on the left-hand side and select ‘Launch Templates’. A Launch Template is a configuration template which defines the settings for EC2 instances launched by the ASG.
Under Launch Templates, we will select “Create launch template”.
We specify the name ‘MyTestTemplate’ and use the same text in the description.
Under the ‘Auto Scaling guidance’ box, tick the box which says ‘Provide guidance to help me set up a template that I can use with EC2 Auto Scaling’ and scroll down to launch template contents.
When it comes to choosing our AMI (Amazon Machine Image) we can choose the Amazon Linux 2 under ‘Quick Start’.
The Amazon Linux 2 AMI is free tier eligible, and easy to use for our demonstration purposes.
Next, we select the ‘t2.micro’ under instance types, as this is also free tier eligible.
Under Network Settings, we create a new Security Group called ExampleSG in our default VPC, allowing HTTP access to everyone. It should look like this.

- How to Create User-Friendly Navigation for a Serverless Website using AWS?by /u/Kind_Rush_4639
Hi all, I've recently created a serverless website that publishes a short story every day. Here are the key features of my website: Static website hosted in AWS S3 (HTML, CSS, images) with CloudFront to cache the static content from the S3 origin Daily stories are stored in a DynamoDB table API Gateway retrieves data from the DynamoDB using Lambda (Python) The website's home page shows the story of the day and the titles of the previous days' stories. However, I'm struggling to find a way for users to navigate to specific stories to read the complete story without manually creating and storing an HTML file for each story in S3. Here's what I've tried so far: Including a URL slug attribute in the DynamoDB table Creating an API /stories/{story_slug} that retrieves the data and populates a template HTML file with the relevant information However, I'm encountering some issues with this approach, and I'm not sure if it's the best solution. The specific issue I'm having trouble with is that if the slug for a story is "the-incredible-story", the API endpoint would be called with the URL apiwhatever.amazonaws.com/prod/stories/the-incredible-story, and the corresponding HTML file would be populated with the data for that story. However, when I try to access the URL example.com/stories/the-incredible-story directly without calling the API endpoint, I get a 404 error. I believe this is because I haven't set up a corresponding HTML file in S3 for each story. Additionally, I'm referencing S3 CSS and images directly instead of using the CloudFront cached data, which doesn't make sense. I was wondering if anyone has experience with a similar setup and could offer some advice or suggestions for a better approach. How can I create user-friendly navigation for my serverless website using AWS? Thank you in advance for your help! submitted by /u/Kind_Rush_4639 [link] [comments]

- Best way to authenticate to private ECR really IAM user?by /u/HAMBoneConnection
I’m building a product that goes out as a virtual machine that grabs container images from a private AWS ECR. Currently the best way I’ve found is creating an IAM user and attaching a policy that only enables access to certain ECR resources. The only alternative I’ve found would be to make an IAM user for each customer and use a separate AWS credential per customer. But then that needs to be automated as well. I just hate that my solution needs the AWS CLI (and AKEY+SKEY) to get the vm authenticated to the repo to then pull. Anyone figured out a better solution? An alternative I’ve considered is just using some other non-Registry application that supports API keys and hosting it on EC2. submitted by /u/HAMBoneConnection [link] [comments]
- Security Groupby /u/Professional-Bike556
What does it mean to have a Security Group in its own outbound rules? E.g. Security Group name is ‘example-external’ and in its own inbound and outbound rule it is added. The reason seems to be because the group is added to Load balancer and target group. But I don’t get adding this group in its own outbound rule. So is it to control outgoing traffic to be within vpc this group is created in or its just a pattern so that target group can accept incoming traffic? submitted by /u/Professional-Bike556 [link] [comments]
- Passed CCP with score 1000/1000 on the first try 🥳🎉by /u/awk_coder
Hey everyone, I'm so happy to find out that I managed to pass CCP with a perfect score 🙂 Huge thanks to Stephane Maarek and Jon Bonso for helping me pass https://preview.redd.it/g23giynpy3qa1.png?width=734&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e59e7920639ea4172218f0649694ffefc7437cf Resources used : Stephane Maarek’s Udemy course and 6 practice exams, and Jon Bonso’s practice exams Stephane is an amazing instructor. He made all the concepts super easy to understand. The memorizing bit was difficult though. After memorizing each section from the course, I generated some essay type revision questions using ChatGPT 🙈 and that kinda helped with sticking all the information to memory. Jon Bonso’s section wise practice MCQs were a big help too. I started doing the practice exams after finishing the course and I was scoring around 70-80% on Stephane’s exams and 80-85% on TD/Jon Bonso’s exams. I noted down all the questions I got wrong or had doubts about, revised them and redid all the practice exams and was scoring above 90 in all of them. Now that CCP is done, I'm planning to get Adrian Cantrill's course for SAA and also look into making some cloud projects 🙂 submitted by /u/awk_coder [link] [comments]
- Would you trust CDK via CI/CD only?by /u/hatchetation
There are many situations in CDK where recovery seems to balance on manually deploying stacks and manipulating individual resources. For example, getting out of a deadly embrace can involve several rounds of temporarily removing and creating transitional resources: https://github.com/aws/aws-cdk/issues/7602 If your boss approved CDK but ONLY if you could assure not needing to use manual workarounds like this, could you do it? ie, Changes will be idempotent, never involve deploys or synth from a developer workstation, and will never be exempted from an intensive code review process. Are people relying on CDK build escape valves as much as it seems? submitted by /u/hatchetation [link] [comments]

- Simulate IAM policies locally without calling an end pointby /u/amberlamps1
I am using the simulate-custom-policy AWS cli end point to test IAM policies agains actions and resources. Calling that end point takes roughly 500ms every time I run it. This is way too long if I want to test hundreds of combinations. Why do I even need to call an end point to simulate a policy? - Ordered updates in DDB streams -> Lambda trigger -> Kinesis stream pipeline?by /u/KartoosD
Hi, I'm trying to implement a system which essentially provides in-order information about DDB updates to multiple consumers. I'm using DDB streams as Kinesis streams from DDB don't maintain order and deduping (source). However, DDB streams can only have a max. of 2 concurrent consumers before being throttled. So what I'm trying to do is have the DDB stream trigger a lambda, which passes the update into a kinesis stream. However, there are a few things I'd like to understand: If I list lambda A as a trigger to the DDB stream, will multiple rapid updates to the table trigger A sequentially? Or would there be parallel invocations of the function? If so, how do I maintain order of updates? Is it recommended to limit the max number of concurrent invocations to 1? Secondly, when I'm writing code to send data into a kinesis stream, the putRecord API in the kinesis client requires a partition key parameter. If I'm aiming to maintain the same order in the kinesis stream, should the partition key be constant for all putRecord() calls? Thanks for the help! submitted by /u/KartoosD [link] [comments]
- Serverless Lambda Rest-API is good?by /u/Competitive_Leg_5599
Hello gigs, Hope you are fine and doing great. One of my friends building a startup and kind of validating the idea so he chooses to go for serverless as a backend application. His requirement is to build REST API using a serverless framework with API gateway + Lambda. His rest API is quite big so is it a good idea to build with One Lambda or separate them into individual lambda? Is it good to use an express-like framework and deploy it on One Lambda? Is there any template code that is doing rest API in javascript(Typescript) with serverless? - Removing all resources before free tier expiresby /u/NoodleBoxShikaka
I recently got an email that my free tier is ending soon (I activated S3 almost a year ago for a tutorial project). I logged in and removed all services and all resources from all regions. Using Tag Editor I confirmed there are no active resources on my account, but under Billing there was still S3 visible in one region. Their support pages suggest that it may take up to 24 hours for that list to update. I checked again today to make sure I wont get charged. The Tag Editor still returns no results for active resources (All regions, all supported resource types), but now, under Billing (Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL charges by service), I see multiple services that I never selected or had active yesterday: CodeArtifact, Data Transfer, Key Management Service, Secrets Manager, Simple Notification Service, Simple Queue Service, Simple Storage Service and Systems Manager. All of them are active throughout all available regions, except for S3 which is active in one region (same as it was yesterday). What the... is going on? Am I going to get charged for that? When I open the consoles for those services there is no items in a list so I guess they are not active afterall??? I have no experience with AWS, and this is just confusing. Can someone please explain what is going on? submitted by /u/NoodleBoxShikaka [link] [comments]
- RIs Vs Savings Plansby /u/Empuc1a
Inspired by another post I saw earlier. I understand the concepts of RIs & Savings Plans. My production workload is 50% split between t3 ec2 instances, and Fargate containers. Do RIs get better savings then Savings Plans, and if so, is my best strategy here to go for a mix of RIs for my ec2 and a savings plans for my containers? Also my company is scaling quickly as we launched 5 months ago and I would expect my compute demand to double this year. Does this mean it's a bad idea to use an RI as I may move up an instance size or two before the end of my 1 year commitment? Really appreciate any advice/opinions/ personal approaches. - AWS-based IoT backend performance improvementby /u/MtvDigi
Looking for advice about improving the performance of the IoT backend app running on AWS. Current IoT data flow: ~10M sensors samples a day with peaks every ~4h. Each sample is a JSON file of ~10-100KB. The goal: Store raw data as it arrives from IoT devices (currently stored in S3). Raw data should pass data enrichment processing and enriched data (samples) to be stored in separate storage (currently stored in RDS PostgreSQL + DMS task is running to migrate all data to Redshift). Be able to query sample data for real-time analytics running ~10 times a day (currently query RDS PostgreSQL). Be able to query sample data for offline analytics by data engineers (currently, query Redshift data migrated by DMS from RDS PostgreSQL). Access to data is done by Lambdas. Main problem: RDS PostgreSQL performance to write/read sample data particularly in peaks when real-time analytics tasks are running. Secondary problem: improve IoT data processing pipeline to support future scalability and ability to analyze data on-the-fly. submitted by /u/MtvDigi [link] [comments]
- Production usage of Kinesis from Python (KCL)by /u/snusmumriq
Hi, Does anyone use Kinesis streams from Python using KCL? I’m considering using in a python-centric application, but ran into some issues during the POC I’ve done. Frankly, the python lib looks half-baked and not too well supported (samples from aws docs just don’t run), and the weird dependency on Java based daemon doesn’t help too. Hello folks, I am now facing an issue that the email sent from pinpoint service (with using AWS SES service) being recognized as spam email in microsoft 365 outlook email accounts. I had researched a bit, and found this article about the email deliverability in AWS SES. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/ses/latest/dg/send-email-concepts-deliverability.html And here is my assumption after reading: Problem of sender reputation. If yes, is applying the dedicated IPs in SES the possible solution to raise the chance of send email successfully without being identified as spam? Problem of email content. The content of the email is like this: "Your security code is xxxxxx The code will expire after 5 minutes. Do not share the code with anyone." Not sure the email doesn't contain any header (like "Dear xxx") or footer (like "Regards, XXX") so that the being treated as spam from microsoft side. Any other possible reasons. I am not sure if I am on the right track for this problem. Appreciated if have any advices. Many thanks. Regards, Jimmy submitted by /u/jimmysyw [link] [comments]

- Help understanding AWS Organizations and multi-account configurationby /u/lost_your_fill
Hi, old sysAdmin here with some Azure / AD knowledge. I've been asked to look building a start to an environment on AWS. I have an Org created and IAM IC configured with an external idP. I understand basic concepts around users, groups, IAM roles and permission sets. What I don't understand is how role assumption works in this configuration. Say I have the root/management account (used to create the org), a dev account, and prod account. Users use SSO and the idP configured in the IAM IC. Now I'm official lost. I have a permission set defined and applied on an IAM IC for both dev and test accounts. What magic needs to happen in the dev/prod accounts? Should any IAM policies or roles be configured there? How do users access in IAM IC interact with the IAM in the individual accounts? I've read about role assumption but not sure I understand it. Appreciate any help, thanks. submitted by /u/lost_your_fill [link] [comments]
- onVUE keep crashing during my SSA exam this morningby /u/joy_humin
Hi there, Can I ask you what would be the best way to ask for a exam retake voucher in this case? I was taking SSA03 exam this morning using my own Mac. The device passed the technical test multiple times. During the exam, when I was trying to flag a question to review, it keeps crashing, total 3 times. And each time I have to wait for 2 minutes for program relaunch. What’s more, the chat functionality isn’t working properly. I cannot sent my question to the proctor. I tried to talk to them, but I didn’t get reply. I was in panic mode and cannot focus anymore after 3 crashes which negatively impacted my performances. I managed to finish the exam in the end without using the flag feature. But I most certainly I will fail the exam miserably. Is it possible to ask either AWS or PEARSON to give me retake voucher if I failed the exam? Thanks! submitted by /u/joy_humin [link] [comments]

Background: I work as a SysAdmin and I have some experience with Azure, including the MS Azure Fundamentals cert. Since AWS is new to me, I decided to take the CLF-C01 first. - Confused about how AWS Role External ID increases securityby /u/matheuscbjr
From what I understand, this was created to avoid the Confused Deputy problem, in the case of an AWS scenario it would be like this: You have a role that trusts a third party AWS account, if that third party account is compromised, accessed by an improper person, the ideal is to ensure that this person (attacker) cannot assume your role To ensure that an improper person assumes your role from a third party account, first of all, during integration, the third party first sends you an external id for you to restrict the trust policy of your role I imagine that the moment an attacker accesses the third party's account, if he knows what the arn of his role is, he must know what the external id is, since the external id is always passed in the AssumeRole API call For the external id to work as an additional security step, I believe that it should be treated as a confidential credential of each client by the third party, with the responsibility of keeping this confidential information on its side, for example: In the application code in calls of AssumeRole API do not leave External Id exposed in clear text So am I right about this? submitted by /u/matheuscbjr [link] [comments]
- Is S3 Deep Archive practical for incremental backups?by /u/1337ingDisorder
I have about 20TB of data I'm hoping to back up. It seems like S3 Deep Archive is the cheapest option, at roughly $20/mo. But I'm concerned incremental backups might rack up a ton of access charges on top of that $20/mo storage cost. Data will generally just be uploaded and never downloaded apart from disaster recovery. I won't need to make frequent uploads, but the uploads will involve adding new files and folders to the already existing folder tree. Eg, let's say this is the first upload: /folder1/ /folder1/file1 /folder1/file2 /folder1/folderA/ /folder1/folderA/fileA ...then the next upload might add: /folder1/file3 /folder1/folderA/fileB /folder1/folderB/ /folder1/folderB/fileA1 ...so it won't just be adding new files to the root, it will need to rummage through the existing S3 folders and compare them to the local folders, then synchronize the S3 folders to match the local folders. None of the existing files will be altered, but new files will be added to existing folders, and some existing files or folders may be deleted. Basically I'm looking to emulate the behaviour of running rsync -acl --delete-after Is Deep Archive appropriate for that, or will I incur a ton of access charges just for listing the existing contents during the comparison phase of each synchronization? submitted by /u/1337ingDisorder [link] [comments]

- Passed DBS-C01 Database Specialty (score 921)by /u/unlikelyarch
Passed the Database Specialty exam recently. There are only a few posts on here about this exam, so hopefully this write-up is helpful to folks considering it. Past Certs - Solutions Architect Associate last year Background - I've been in IT for 12+ years and have been working with AWS for several years now. Data is my background so getting this cert made sense. I used to be an Oracle DBA, but in the past couple of years I've worked with RDS some and Aurora PG a little. Difficulty Level - I found this exam easier than the SA Associate exam. Mostly because there are fewer services to learn about and my past familiarity with the subject matter. Big caveat though - concepts such as networking, IAM policies, encryption etc. are carried over from SA so if I was doing this cert first it would be much harder. Timeline - I prepped for 18 days, 3-6 hours a day with a day off every week Prep courses - There aren't many courses available for this cert. I used Stephane Maarek and Riyaz Sayyad's course on Udemy, but was a bit underwhelmed. The course was originally created in 2020 (demos still show that timestamp) but doesn't look it has been updated since then. Newer features like RDS Multi-AZ cluster mode, Aurora Serverless v2, Redshift Serverless, RDS Custom, DevOps Guru etc. were not mentioned. I sped through the course, then spent the rest of my time going over AWS documentation - mostly the user guides, but also some white papers, architecture patterns and the knowledge center (links at the bottom). Note that the FAQs are sparse for some services like DynamoDB - don't rely on just that. The free Skillbuilder DB Learning Plans have some good lessons, but it's long. I only picked ones I was interested in or knew little about. Practice Exams - I used 3 practice exams - one by Stephane/Abhishek, and 2 sets by Tutorial Dojo. The first one was ok, some questions were less than clear but they were effective as a first pass (score 84%). I don't love the Udemy platform though. The TD ones were not upto their usual standards. This was surprising because I thought their SAA practice exams were very well-written and high quality. Maybe because this is not an in-demand cert, they haven't invested as much effort into it. They are woefully behind on updates - even their cheat sheets show old info about things like RDS automated backups CRR. The wording is poor and many of the questions make big assumptions that are not adequately supported by either the question or the answer explanation. Atleast one of the questions has an obvious wrong answer. At first I started cataloging these to provide feedback, but honestly there are many like that and it's a time consuming job so I abandoned it. Having said all that, they are still a good resource to practice answering exam questions and to test your recall so I recommend them. Scores for the 2 sets - 91%, 85% Exam - I took the exam at a test center at 10am. Finished early, about 2 hours including review. I got my credly email early the next morning, and the email from AWS T&C about 24 hours after I finished the exam. I had more questions around networking than I expected and a couple on newer features. Also several questions specific to SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Pretty low level detail stuff. Also, many of the questions were multiple select which is always tricky because you have to get all 3 (or 2) right. Overall this was kinda fun to study for and sit, I'm glad I did. I know the general recommendation in this subreddit is to do the SA Pro first and generally I agree, but if like me your area of expertise is in one of the specialties I don't see why it couldn't come first. The SAP is next for me, but it is a beast compared to this. One extra tip for the Database exam - take a look at the Knowledge Center and Prescriptive Guidance Patterns. Both are excellent for Q & A troubleshooting style questions and learning common design patterns. If you're learning this for your job and not just the exam, I also recommend the Architecture Center for Databases - some great whitepapers and guides there! submitted by /u/unlikelyarch [link] [comments]
- Test on 3/25 Need help: Cloud Practitionerby /u/Opening_Inside_9054
I have gone through most of the free 13 hour course on YouTube. I have taken 3 of the Tutorial Dojo exams and currently score 50, 55 and 63. I'm taking the test on Saturday and just looking for some insight on how to maximize my chance of passing. I know its a little window. Do I just grind the tests to get familiar? i know best practice is to get my fundamentals down but i am looking for a quick pass. submitted by /u/Opening_Inside_9054 [link] [comments]

- Passed SAA-C03by /u/look4chirag
Passed AWS Solutions Architect - Associate (SAA-C03) last month. I want to express my sincere gratitude to this awesome community and content/courses by Adrian Cantrill and Tutorial Dojo. Adrian's course was very thorough and relevant. Perhaps it took me little long to complete Adrian's course and my innocent memory kept forgetting initial learnings. Totorial Dojo's eBook pdf and practice exams (I bought bundle) helped putting back me in my journey. Overall, it was enlighting and exciting journey. 🙂 submitted by /u/look4chirag [link] [comments]
