- Issues with Entra Provisioning Agentby /u/Capn007 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 8:28 pm
We're trying to setup Workday to Active Directory provisioning for two domains in separate forests to single tenant. I've got one working correctly, but I'm having issues with the second that has me puzzled. On the second, I define the API url, workday username, workday password, the default OU, and the AD domain, and connection fails, and for simplicity purposes we'll call this domain2. If I take the default OU and AD domain from domain1, the one that's working, and put that info into the admin credentials, the test connection is successful. This is telling me it's something with the provisioning agent in domain2. We compared permissions in AD for the gMSA from domain1 to domain2 and they appear the same. We're also looking into possible firewall blocks, but the agent shows healthy in Entra ID. Outside of those two things, has anyone run into this before, or have any ideas? The connection error says invalid credentials, but I've confirmed the Workday stuff works, unless it's referring to the provisioning agent. submitted by /u/Capn007 [link] [comments]
- RBAC access to specific azure file share through storage explorerby /u/BriguyNet (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 7:59 pm
I’m looking for guidance on a challenge we’re facing with Azure storage accounts. We have a storage account set up with multiple file shares, primarily accessed by users through Storage Explorer. We’re in the process of implementing stricter access controls using Access Control (IAM). Our goal is to assign permissions at the file share level rather than the storage account level. However, I’ve encountered an issue: users are only able to access a file share if roles are assigned at the storage account level. I’m unsure if this is a limitation or if I’m missing a configuration step. Is it possible to restrict access to a specific file share using Access Control (IAM)? If so, could you provide some guidance on how to achieve this? Thanks in advance for your help! submitted by /u/BriguyNet [link] [comments]

- Conditional Access Policy to Block Device Registration Outside of Trusted Locations Issuesby /u/HammersFe (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 6:22 pm
Hi All, As the title states, I am trying to block the ability to register devices outside of our trusted locations in Azure. I found the following documentation, but the instructions provided do not work in our tenant. Selecting "Block access" is grayed out when configuring the CAP as documented. When configuring the CAP, navigating to the Target resources > User actions > Register or join devices, states: Only "Require multifactor authentication" can be used in policies created for the "Register or join devices" user action. Learn more This message seems to contradict the documentation. Only being able to require multifactor authentication for this CAP does not stop the issue we are trying to address, which is namely some user getting their MFA token phished and then the malicious actor registers a new device from a location outside our network as the phished user. At the end of the day, we only want staff to be able to register new devices while inside our trusted locations. If anyone has a better idea on how to do this, I am all ears. It doesn't seem like Microsoft has rolled out the functionality yet despite having it in the documentation. I have been following the article since it was published in October hoping for an update, but nothing yet. Google has failed me in finding others who have had this issue as well. - Best Practices for when and how to use Azure Firewall and NSGsby /u/bicho6 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 3:20 pm
To give a little background, I have been a Senior (Security)Network Engineer for over 20 years and am well-versed in all things Network. I understand network architecture and when and where to deploy firewalls. I currently work for a relatively large company with a decent-sized cloud presence. Historically, the Network Infrastructure team hasn't been involved in the architecture of the cloud, but recently, our security team pointed out that the Azure Firewall needs to be locked down. Enter me; I took a look at the Azure firewall, and it's configured as an "any any" rule. I have to lock that down and figure out what traffic for all the workloads (vnets) must be allowed. While doing some discovery, I noticed many VNets also have NSGs configured. My question to those out there more intelligent than me. What is the best practice for using NSGs and firewalls? Currently, all vnets point to the firewall for routing. Given that, do I want to have an NSG? From my old school networking perspective NSGs are dumber (stateless) distributed ACLS. I'm just trying to architect this so that five years from now, I won't be kicking myself. submitted by /u/bicho6 [link] [comments]
- Title: Azure Automation Runbook Stuck in "Queued" Status on Hybrid Worker VMby /u/roni4486 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 12:54 pm
Hi everyone, I’ve set up an Azure Automation job that needs to run on-premises. To achieve this, I created a VM that is joined to our Active Directory (AD) and installed the Hybrid Worker extension on it. Everything seems to be set up correctly, but I’m encountering an issue when I try to run a runbook. Issue: When I initiate a runbook, it gets stuck in the "Queued" status and never progresses. Upon logging into the VM, I verified that the Hybrid Worker extension was installed correctly by checking the log files and the registry. However, I noticed that in the worker group, the "Last Seen" time is the time when the VM was created, and it hasn’t updated since. 1.Could the private endpoint configuration be causing this issue 2.Are there any specific network configurations or firewall settings that I should verify 3.What other steps can I take to troubleshoot why the runbook is stuck in the "Queued" status? submitted by /u/roni4486 [link] [comments]
- Azure VM backup for small lab environmentby /u/JimGogarty-TheITGuy (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 12:18 pm
Hello all Looking for advice. So, I have set up a zure Tennant as a lab environment for testing and building on last year. I use it to build and configure some setups and then remove them. But I have kept a web server as a personal blog and an info site as a showcase. It's nothing special, just for messing around. I run a BS2-reserved instance with a Linux VM and a Docker web server. I am hosting a blogging website and some other Docker containers. So I would like to put a backup solution for the VM in place. I set up a Twingate site-to-site VPN with a Load balancer and network gateway on the Tennant with a free Veeam Agent that would back up my site to a drive that mapped to the VM, which was back in my home lab environment. I got the Gateway for the first 12 months free, but now that I am out of the free trial, I am looking for an alternative that will keep the cost to a minimum. I was playing around with setting up a Veeam CE, but this requires another VM for the tenant to back up the site to blob storage, which is about another E20/month. The blob storage is cheap, but I want to avoid running another VM to back up a VM once a week. I want to keep the cost around E30 per month as most. Do you have any comments? submitted by /u/JimGogarty-TheITGuy [link] [comments]
- Struggling with Azure CDN/Frontdoor and Dynamic Contentby /u/Motor_Ad_1090 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 12:08 pm
Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice on a caching challenge we’ve encountered while building a social media app on Flutter. We’re using Azure Frontdoor and Azure CDN to optimize load times (sub-100ms for cached content on repeat loads), but we’re struggling with dynamic content. For example, when a user joins a group, the "Join" button updates to "Joined," but revisiting the group shows "Join" again until the cache refreshes (currently a 1-hour TTL). This also impacts other real-time features like likes and follow/unfollow, which undermines the user experience. Disabling caching for real-time calls in Frontdoor resolves this, but it leads to a clunky UX—e.g., the group page loads in 100ms, but the button takes 2-3 seconds to update based on location. Has anyone faced a similar issue? Are there short-term solutions we can explore within Azure (e.g., Frontdoor rules, alternative TTL strategies) before transitioning to a more robust setup like Redis? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! submitted by /u/Motor_Ad_1090 [link] [comments]
- Best way to view telemetry data in Power Bi?by /u/Impressive_Duty_5816 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 11:56 am
Hi. First of all I should mention that I'm not a tech-savvy guy. I've never worked with Azure or anything like it, the most advanced I've done is working some tables with Numpy and Pandas in Python. However I got involved in this project and I really think I'm capable of pulling it off. However I need some guidance. We have an Azure Data Explorer doing telemetry, and we want to build an easy and automated way to store the data neatly so we can view this data received in Power Bi. To be able to analyze a week's worth of data maybe, or a month's worth, or a year's worth, but make it easy and quick to do. The data received requires some processing (data selection depending on what you want to plot, data filtering and transposing). I had thought of the following ways (again, I don't understand much): Data Explorer -> Azure Functions (to process the data and move it around) -> Azure Blob Container (here have different folders with weekly, monthly and yearly sorted data) -> Power Bi. Data Explorer -> Power Query (here you can do any manipulation of the data, I understand that you can build a script here so you don't have to do the transformation manually each time) -> Power Bi. Do you know any example of someone who has done something similar? I would even be grateful if you could simply tell me if what I said makes sense or not. submitted by /u/Impressive_Duty_5816 [link] [comments]
- I've been working on a tool to identify where access can be removed or reducedby /u/SeikoShadow (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 10:12 am
Hey folks, I’ve been working on a tool called RoleSense. RoleSense is designed to help you easily identify over-privileged accounts and to provide clear, actionable insights to safely reduce access within your Azure Subscriptions. It analyzes your Azure Activity Logs (or data in a Log Analytics Workspace) to assess actual usage, offering recommendations on two fronts: Where access can be revoked entirely. Where access is needed, the tool suggests the least privileged role that still meets the requirements for the user's tasks. I've tried my best to make the tool as simple and useful as possible, It's currently at an MVP stage and I'd love to get some feedback and constructive criticism from folks in the community. The tool has a free licence and also a paid option for larger tenants, but I'd be more than happy to offer a discount or even free licences for those that are happy to give feedback so I can improve the tool. - Managing hybrid identities - Azure Cloud Syncby /u/Ok_Ship8229 (Microsoft Azure) on December 13, 2024 at 8:50 am
Our business in in the process of slowly moving away from on-prem resources to full cloud, and part of that step is moving our device estate into AutoPilot, Intune etc but we would like to try and steer away from relying on AD to manage the hybrid cloud identities, for example, our "contact infiormation" section of a user's account on AD is out of date and messy or inconsistent, we'd much prefer to keep the management of this in Entra but once enabling the sync connector the management of these fields is moved back to AD. Furthermore, we started looking at removing the sync mappings in the hope that this would leave the management of each respective field in the cloud, but this just prevents the sync of data and thus breaks the ability to update the field at all. Does anyone know of a way to retain some of the management controls in the cloud when syncing from on-prem AD? submitted by /u/Ok_Ship8229 [link] [comments]

Azure Certification Path 2022- 2023 for someone with no experience coding
This is what I would recommend as the path since you have no coding experience:
AZ900–>AZ104–>SC900–>AZ305 or AZ400 or AZ500 -> AI900
Azure Fundamentals –> Azure Administrator –> Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals –> Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft Azure Security Technologies
or Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions
That being said, I’d recommend learn scripting as that would come in handy for this admin path expert. If you passed SAA, I’m positive you can pass any cert with proper dedication.
FYI – I created this free tool to carve out your certification path. Give it a try here. Open to feedback on how it can be improved for everyone.
Certifications for Microsoft Azure
There’s a Microsoft certification for you, whether or not you’re thinking about what Microsoft Azure is and where to start, or where you should go next in your cloud job. There are around 16 Azure cloud assertions open. Here is an overview of current Microsoft Azure assertions.
Nuts and bolts Level Certifications

Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
There are also two other Microsoft assertions that are Azure-related. While we won’t cautiously depict them in this post, dependent upon your master way and limit, they might justify researching.
For security engineers responsible for peril the leaders, checking, and response, the Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate confirmation is required. It requires completing the SC-200 appraisal.
Test SC-300 is required for the Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate, which is for heads who use Azure AD to manage IAM.
What might be prudent for you to do first?
In particular, you should make certain with regards to what a Microsoft Azure confirmation is and isn’t. Is simply clear? Phenomenal! Then, at that point, we ought to explore three circumstances that can assist you with picking where to start.
“I’m new to development. I’m essentially uninformed in regards to this ‘cloud’ that is quite serious.”
You can sort out some way to cloud in the event that you’re the kind of person who counts “Microsoft Word” as a specific capacity on your resume. On the off chance that you’re just beginning started, a section level certification will outfit you with the language and understanding you’ll need to all the more promptly analyze your ensuing stages. The AZ-900 Azure Fundamentals accreditation is your first stop on the Azure road.
The cloud might be alarming, yet the capacities you’ll get as you seek after this accreditation will help you with understanding it in a way that even an all out beginner can understand — especially if you have the right getting ready. (Look at me as a hotshot, yet I think our Azure Fundamentals getting ready is astonishing.)
“I have a fundamental cognizance of the cloud.”
Perhaps you’ve worked in the IT field beforehand. Perhaps you’ve attempted various things with AWS, GCP, or Azure. Do you accept you’re ready to make a dive? Press the brakes. Start with the Azure Fundamentals affirmation, if you haven’t at this point. In the best circumstance, you’ll see it to be a breeze. Regardless, paying little heed to how far you advance in Azure, this accreditation will give the establishment to future accomplishment. The accompanying crosspiece on the ladder (Azure Administrator Associate) can be an inconvenient one to ascend. Before dealing with it, you’ll need all of the Fundamentals data notwithstanding a huge load of Azure included knowledge.
Here are different Azure Certifications (Microsoft Certified)
AZ-900
For beginners, this is the best Microsoft Azure accreditation. It’s an unprecedented spot to start on the off chance that you’re new to appropriated processing or Microsoft Azure. This one would be Azure 101 if test names appeared to be okay and acceptable.
Test AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals ($99 USD) is required.
There are no fundamentals.
For whom this is for?
In a general sense, everyone. Non-particular individuals with a cloud-related calling, similarly as new or cheerful designers or IT experts, could benefit from acknowledging what the cloud is and isn’t. Any person who needs to comprehend the Microsoft Azure environment should have the data expected to complete this evaluation.
Fundamentals DP-900 Microsoft Certified
For inescapable data focused cloud subject matter experts, this is a significant beginning advance assertion.
Test DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals ($99 USD) is required.
There are no fundamentals.
For whom this is for?
This helper is for informational collection draftsmen and data base administrators who are essentially starting with cloud data.
AI Fundamentals AI-900 Microsoft Certified
This Microsoft Azure affirmation exhibits that you appreciate the fundamentals of man-made mental ability (AI) and AI (ML) in Azure for amateurs with both particular and non-specific establishments.
Test AI-900: Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals ($99 USD) is required.
There are no basics.
For whom this is for?
Reproduced insight Engineers, Data Scientists, Developers, and Solutions Architects with a working data on AL and ML, similarly as Azure organizations related with them. This affirmation, like the others in the Azure Fundamentals series, is normal for those with both specific and non-particular establishments. That proposes data science and PC programming experience aren’t required, but Microsoft recommends making them program data or experience.
Administrator Associate AZ-104 is a Microsoft attestation.
For the IT swarm, this is the rudiments of Azure organization. This takes you from a fundamental perception of the cloud to having the alternative to perform cloud tasks (and get repaid to do them).
Test AZ-104: Microsoft Azure Administrator ($165 USD) is required.
For whom this is for?
This affirmation is for IT specialists and administrators who screen cloud assets and resources and direct cloud system. This test is (mistakenly) seen as an entry level test, yet you’ll need to know an immense heap of anticipated that information should pass and do whatever it takes not to have your AZ denied.
Azure Container Apps:
Azure Container Apps is a serverless offering you can use to host your containers. It is a good fit for containerized apps and hosting microservices. Integrated services like KEDA, Envoy proxy, and Dapr provide you with out-of-the-box auto-scaling, ingress, traffic splitting, and simplified microservice connectivity.
Container Apps service is built on top of Kubernetes. Container Apps are an Azure Resource Manager deployment object, meaning you can’t just use your existing Kubernetes object descriptions and migrate them to Container Apps. You need to rewrite your deployment stack using Bicep or ARM templates. Terraform is not yet supported.
