What is Azure VM temporary storage?
In Azure, every VM – regardless if Linux or Windows – gets a temporary disk assigned automatically. This temporary disk is located on the physical server (the hypervisor) where the Azure VM is hosted and is non-persistent. Disks used by the operating system or additionally added data disks are persistent disks and stored in Azure Storage.
Azure VM’s can be moved from its current host to new host at any time due to maintenance, hardware failures or other reasons. In such an event, the data from the temporary storage will not preserve or moved to the new host. Apart from the hardware failures, there are many other reasons data from the temporary disk will be lost:
- Resizing of the VM
- Restarting of the VM
- Moving from one host to another
- Updating/upgrading of host
Really, the temporary disk should never be used for data that has to be persistent. To avoid misconfiguration, the disk also has the drive label “Temporary Storage” and includes a text file “DATALOSS_WARNING_README.txt”. Read more here…
Does Azure VM include a Windows license?
It depends on the virtual machine type we talk about. Some Azure virtual machines include a Windows operating system license in their price (some even include a SQL Server). Wow, what a difference a couple of days and a different set of questions makes. I took the exam Monday and fell just short of passing (659), and I retook it today and scored 850! The questions on the first attempt were definitely harder, and I could tell from the first few questions I was going to have a rough time.

For any looking to sit this, I’ve had around 3 years of experience proving 2nd line technical support for an Azure environment. I used the following to prep for this exam:
Scotty Duffy’s Udemy Course – this was a bit of a waste of time and money in my eyes, nowhere near detailed enough. There are some reviews from people saying they passed the exam using this course alone with no experience using Azure but I really do not believe that.
Tim Warner’s YouTube series – this was great bearing in mind it was free. Way more worth the time than Scott’s, I wish I’d have started here.
Tutorials Dojo Practise Exams – I’d only recommend using these exams to test your knowledge and build some confidence, the questions in the exam were more difficult but the format and nature of these give you a good idea of what to expect.

What an exciting journey. I think AZ-900 is the hardest probably because it is my first Microsoft certification. Afterwards, the others are fair enough. AI-900 is the easiest.

Literally just passed the exam an hour or so ago 🙂 Not full points but whatever, ~900 is enough.
Have 0 experience with any of it, actually just did it for fun because of the discounts on virtual training days and I thought why not, certification looks good.
Spent half of the virtual day course not listening but you have to log in for the exam discount. Around 4h or so in total watching John Savills content and some of the MS resource sites.
Exam questions were often not directly related to all the stuff talked in the courses so some kinda surprised me. Also I only spent like 25min in total going through them twice, much faster than I thought it was gonna be.
Savills content is gold though, a neat summary of the MS product system. MS resource sites are beneficial to go through as well.
Really doubt any of my future employers will actually take notice or care that much given I won’t go into the sysadmin industry but certification is certification right? And it was free 🙂
Now I just need to figure out how to actually get a pdf of the certificate/badge lol

Reading all the feedback and people's comment on the Networking and ARM template, I might've spent more time on it than I should have. Does anyone know how to get any special free trials I can use to work on azure? My free trial ran out. Will be planning to take the test again in 3-4 weeks - anyone here that would recommend doing it earlier or later? Hello everyone 🙂 Started reading through this subreddit a few days ago and just wanna say thanks for all the tips and tricks! I did it through Pearson VUE and I had my first attempt last tuesday where i failed with 673 points. I was really nervous and didnt understand how the test was built. I had around 12 minutes left when i came to the case studdy, so i started panicing and nothing i read stayed in my head. And before i knew it time was up, think i had 6 question left to answer. Today however i managed my time way better and passed with a score of 730. What i tried to think of this time was to answer every question and go back to review the ones i was unsure of if i had time. and only then check MS Learn, and i never verified any of the ones i was sure of unless i had time 🙂 Hope that helps and good luck everyone! submitted by /u/virrefvr [link] [comments]

Hi All, After months of Azure learning on MSLearn, days worth of YouTube AZ-104 courses, hours and hours of exam practice, I went into the exam faily confident. Came out with 687 and I'm kicking myself as it was probably a handful of questions that were not correct to get the pass. Clearly not ready to PASS it yet, can't remember which areas of the exam need to brush up on so I'm going to have to brush up on all the topics. What I think I understand is that there are (at least) three methods of implementing MFA for a tenant. The "old" way was to enable / enforce individual policies from https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/UserManagement/MultifactorVerification.aspx Here, the admin could turn MFA on / off for each individual account. The "new" way (what we're using) is to turn on the Azure Security Defaults. This provides a blanket policy for all users where the admin can manage authentication options (app, key, etc). https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/business-premium/m365bp-turn-on-mfa?view=o365-worldwide&tabs=secdefaults The "step-up" is to implement conditional access and / or MFA policies for users or groups. This is the best method but it requires each user to have at least Azure AD Premium P1 / Entra ID P1 for $6 per user per month. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-cloud-apps/proxy-deployment-aad#prerequisites And, if I understand correctly, to enable this for one user it would have to be enabled for all users? My issue is that we have Azure accounts that aren't being used by people but by systems or services - such as a printer or PowerAutomate workflows. Some of our usres are also being asked to re-authenticate multiple times a day (they claim). I keep hitting this road block and wonder if it's an inevitability to have a conversation with ownership that we need to get this P1 license for every account. I have a route-based VpnGw2AZ Gen 2 VPN tunnel built that connects to a physical Fortigate firewall. The tunnel on its own with a single encryption domain created (/32 on the Fortigate side, and a /24 for our vnet that's being shared) comes up fine. But when attempting to create/implement a NAT rule (to translate traffic leaving Azure and passing through the gateway to the Fortigate) on the connection, the tunnel doesn't want to come back up - looks like it never gets passed phase 1 at that point. The NAT rule is set as EgressSNAT that maps a test /32 in our vnet, configured in Internal Mappings, and translates to a different /32 in the same network configured in External mappings. Looking at the debug on the Fortigate, it would appear it's invalid IKE requests that are preventing the tunnel from forming. Every once in a while it DOES form, and I can see the phase 2 pass, but then it drops immediately after that. Question as I am having no luck finding the answer. Probably because I am using the wrong terminology. We are enabling MFA across the org and doing so by having some accounts whitelisted for MFA. My understanding is that MFA will never actually enable unless the account is logged into, outside of the IP, to trigger the MFA prompt. This obviously defeats the purpose because if the account is breached, the breaching party will get prompted to setup MFA. Is there a way, like there was in O365 MFA (Disable > Enable > Enforce), to have Azure trigger MFA without needing to log into the account? It wouldn't make sense for an auth app obviously, but we could tie it to a central secure phone line or an admin email. Any assistance appreciated. submitted by /u/EchoPhi [link] [comments]

PASSED my first Microsoft exam (AZ-305) today at a PearsonVue testing center. Not sure if this is common with Microsoft exams but the Case Study section appeared AFTER the Microsoft Feedback Survey. I submitted the exam with 5 mins to spare, then completed the survey, only to find out that I had the Case Study section to complete with the remaining 5 mins...
