List of the most commonly recurring words in Video Game Titles – Mobile Game Name Generator
A video game is an electronic game that can be played on a computing device, such as a personal computer, gaming console or mobile phone. Depending on the platform, video games can be subcategorized into computer games and console games.
Some of the major players in the video gaming industry are Tencent, Sony and Apple, each generating billions of dollars in revenue every year, making them some of the most successful public companies in terms of gaming revenue. Sony’s PlayStation 4 is the bestseller among current generation consoles and, in 2020, the unit sales of the PlayStation 4 reached more than 112 million units.
While 24 percent don’t play video games at all, almost 18 percent spend more than six hours per week playing video games. Some of the favorite video game genres in 2020 included action, strategy, and action-adventure. The most popular store for hard copy video games was GameStop, while Amazon was the most popular store for digital/online video game purchases.
Reddit /u/BDMayhem analyzed 4000 “hardcore” mobile games for Android, and made a list of the most commonly recurring words in the Game Titles.

Number 5: League of Legends
League of Legends in a multiplayer online game similar to Mobile Legends.
As in other multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games, each player in League of Legends controls a character (“champion”) with a set of unique abilities. Most games involve two teams of five players, with each player using a different champion.
The two teams compete to be the first to destroy the Nexus structure within the opposing base. Over the course of each game, champions become stronger and gain additional abilities by earning experience and thereby levelling up. Experience is earned by killing enemies (or being nearby when a teammate does). Champions also build strength over the course of the game by buying progressively more powerful items using gold, which is earned by killing non-player enemies, killing or assisting in killing enemy players, destroying enemy structures, or selling other items.

Valorant (stylized as VALORANT) is a free-to-play multiplayer tactical first-person shooter developed and published by Riot Games, for Microsoft Windows. Valorant is a team-based tactical shooter and first-person shooter set in the near-future. Players play as one of a set of agents, characters designed based on several countries and cultures around the world.
In the main game mode, players are assigned to either the attacking or defending team with each team having five players on it. Agents have unique abilities, each requiring charges, as well as a unique ultimate ability which requires charging through kills, deaths, or spike actions. Every player starts each round with a “classic” pistol and one or more “signature ability” charge. Other weapons and ability charges can be purchased using an in game economic system which awards money based on the outcome of the previous round, any kills the player is responsible for, and any actions taken with the spike. The game has an assortment of weapons including sidearms, submachine guns, shotguns, machine guns, assault rifles and sniper rifles. There are automatic and semi-automatic weapons that have a shooting pattern which has to be controlled by the player in order to be able to shoot accurately.
Number 3: Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter game developed and published by Valve. It is the sequel to the 1996 Team Fortress mod for Quake and its 1999 remake, Team Fortress Classic. It was released in October 2007 as part of The Orange Box video game bundle for Windows and Xbox 360.
A PlayStation 3 version followed in December 2007 when The Orange Box was ported to the system.
Later in development, the game was released as a standalone title for Windows in April 2008, and was updated to support Mac OS X in June 2010 and Linux in February 2013. It is distributed online through Valve’s digital retailer Steam, with Electronic Arts handling all physical and console ports of the game.
The player can join one of two teams, RED or BLU, and choose one of 9 character classes to battle in game modes such as capture the flag and king of the hill. Development of the game was led by John Cook and Robin Walker, the developers of the original Team Fortress mod. Team Fortress 2 was first announced in 1998 under the name Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms. Initially, the game had more realistic, militaristic visuals and gameplay, but this changed over the protracted nine-year development. After Valve released no information for six years, Team Fortress 2 regularly featured in Wired News‘ annual vaporware list among other ignominies. The finished Team Fortress 2 has cartoon-like visuals influenced by the art of J. C. Leyendecker, Dean Cornwell, and Norman Rockwell and uses Valve’s Source game engine.

Number 2: Bluestacks
Bluestacks app player is a programme that lets you run android games on windows. As of 2020, Bluestacks can run 1.5 million android apps.

Number 1: Fortnite
Fortnite is distributed as three different game modes, using the same engine; each has similar graphics, art assets, and game mechanics.
- Fortnite: Save the World is a player-versus-environment cooperative game, with four players collaborating towards a common objective on various missions. The game is set after a fluke storm appears across Earth, causing 98% of the population to disappear, and the survivors to be attacked by zombie-like “husks”. The players take the role of commanders of home base shelters, collecting resources, saving survivors, and defending equipment that helps to either collect data on the storm or to push back the storm. From missions, players are awarded a number of in-game items, which include hero characters, weapon and trap schematics, and survivors, all of which can be leveled up through gained experience to improve their attributes.
- Fortnite Battle Royale is a player-versus-player game for up to 100 players, allowing one to play alone, in a duo, or in a squad (usually consisting of three or four players). Weaponless players airdrop from a “Battle Bus” that crosses the game’s map. When they land, they must scavenge for weapons, items, resources, and even vehicles while trying to stay alive and to attack and eliminate other players. Over the course of a round, the safe area of the map shrinks down in size due to an incoming toxic storm; players outside that threshold take damage and can be eliminated if they fail to quickly evacuate. This forces remaining players into tighter spaces and encourages player encounters. The last player, duo, or squad remaining is the winner.
- Fortnite Creative is a sandbox game mode, similar to Minecraft in that players are given complete freedom to spawn everything that is within the game on an island, and can create games such as battle arenas, race courses, platforming challenges, and more.
Players can use their pickaxe to knock down existing structures on the map to collect basic resources that are wood, brick, and metal. Subsequently, in all modes, the player can use these materials to build fortifications, such as walls, floors, and stairs. Such fortification pieces can be edited to add things like windows or doors. The materials used have different durability properties and can be updated to stronger variants using more materials of the same type. Within Save the World this enables players to create defensive fortifications around an objective or trap-filled tunnels to lure husks through. In Battle Royale, this provides the means to quickly traverse the map, protect oneself from enemy fire, or to delay an advancing foe. Players are encouraged to be very inventive in designing their fortifications in Creative.
While Battle Royal and Creative are free-to-play, Save the World is pay-to-play. The games are monetized through the use of V-Bucks, in-game currency that can be purchased with real-world funds, but also earned through completing missions and other achievements in Save the World. V-Bucks in Save the World can be used to buy loot boxes, in the form of piñatas shaped like llamas, to gain a random selection of items. In Battle Royale, V-Bucks can be used to buy cosmetic items like character models or the like, or can also be used to purchase the game’s battle pass, a tiered progression of customization rewards for gaining experience and completing certain objectives during the course of a Battle Royale season.
You can always play the Fortnite android version on Bluestacks.
Warning: Fortnite android version is not available on the play store. I don’t have time to explain that right now. Please watch a YouTube video on how to download it. (Fortnite Mobile was banned from the play store because Fortnite Mobile started using their own payment system instead of the Google Play one that gave Google 30% of their profit).
The supreme game: Call of Duty®: Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone, the only free game in the Call of Duty series, is a multiplayer online shooter game.
Warzone features two primary game modes: Battle Royale and Plunder. It is the second main battle royale installment in the Call of Duty franchise, following the “Blackout” mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (2018). Warzone differs from Black Ops 4 by reducing reliance on equipable gadgets and instead encouraging the accumulation of a new in-game currency called Cash.
Warzone supports up to 150 players in a single match, which exceeds the typical size of 100 players seen in other battle royale titles. Some limited-time modes support 200 players.
The Battle Royale mode is similar to other titles in the genre where players compete in a continuously shrinking map to be the last player remaining. Players parachute onto a large game map, where they encounter other players. As the game progresses and players are eliminated, the playable area shrinks forcing the remaining players into tighter spaces. In Warzone, the non-playable areas become contaminated with a green gas that depletes health and eventually kills the player if they do not return to the safe playable area.
Unlike other titles, Warzone introduces a new respawn mechanic, a greater emphasis on vehicles, and a new in-game currency mechanic. Parachuting is unrestricted, with the player being allowed to open and cut their parachute an unlimited number of times while in air. At launch, the game supported trios (squads of up to three players) with an option to disable squad filling. Infinity Ward has mentioned testing the number of squad members in future updates. Four-player squads and Solo BR modes were added in following updates, while Duos was added near the end of Season 3.
Character death in Battle Royale does not necessarily translate to player defeat like in other titles. Instead, the mode offers a respawn mechanic which players can take advantage of in various ways. Players who are killed are transported to the “Gulag”, where they engage in one-on-one combat with another defeated player, with both players being given the same weaponry. The guns that the players receive have little or no attachments. Players may only enter the gulag after their first death in a match. The winner of this combat is respawned into the game. Other methods of respawn are available using the in-game currency system. Players may use the in-game currency to purchase respawn tokens for other players should they not be revived by the Gulag mechanic.
In the Plunder mode teams have to search for stacks of Cash scattered around the map to accumulate $1 million. Once found, the game goes into overtime, multiplying all Cash sums by 1.5. The team who has gathered the most money when the clock runs out is declared the winner. Players respawn automatically in this gamemode.
In addition to Battle Royale and Plunder, several limited-time modes have been introduced throughout the course of the game’s life cycle:
- BR Buy Backs (originally called BR Stimulus) is a variation of Battle Royale in which players automatically respawn upon death if they have sufficient money, and the Gulag is disabled.
- Blood Money is a variation of Plunder in which players gain more cash rewards from completing contracts and performing “finishing moves” (execution kills) on other players.
- Warzone Rumble is a 50v50 deathmatch type game mode taking place in cut-off sections of the main Verdansk map.
- Mini Royale is a 50-player mode in which players drop within a smaller circle than normal Battle Royale modes, for more squad engagements.
- Juggernaut Royale features the Juggernaut killstreak dropping in random places throughout the map. Up to three Juggernauts can be active at once in the map. Once a Juggernaut is killed, another Juggernaut care package will spawn in.
- Armored Royale features squads spawning in with armored trucks, which players can upgrade to be more powerful over time. Unlike normal modes, players can continue to respawn as long as their squad’s truck is intact.

Bonus Game: slither.io
Slither io is a website based online game where you play as a worm/ snake (I’m not sure) and have to grow bigger by eating the glowing stuff and killing other players and eating their points. You get killed if your head bumps into another player’s body.

Now this is just my view but I think it’s the permadeath mechanic.
Imagine all your precious character stats that you’ve painstakingly built up only for it to be gone.
Just like that.
I can’t imagine the “feeling” of all that hard work going to waste.

Cloud Gaming
With the increase of Cloud-Gaming, mobile has become a very valuable option for on the go gaming. With services like Google Stadia, GeForce Now, PlayStation Now, etc. you have a very big variety so you can play all the games you want on that small screen of your phone. Also, 5G will make this process even smoother.
The video game industry has (not so) quietly undergone a big number of changes: microtransactions, development costs, and competition.
The idea of a “Netflix for video games” is quite simple — a service that allows all people to play high-quality video games on any device through a subscription offering. It still remains uncertain how game streaming will shape up in the end, but reviewing the first attempts to create such a solution, we can identify some patterns.

What exactly is meta-gaming in Dungeons & Dragons? Is it bad or good? What are some examples?:
Meta-Gaming is when you make in-game decisions based on out-of-game knowledge. This is mostly a bad thing.
Let’s consider several situations to illustrate the point.
Finding a Trap:
- The Metagamer goes right to where the trap is located and spams “search” checks until he “finds” it, because he’s played this module before and remembers the trap.
- The regular player searches the room once, fails, and blithely walks into a trap. Because while he knows it’s there, his character does not.
Do you see how one made a decision based on what he knew, possibly ruined a possible good storytelling moment, and cheated. The other player was able to separate what he knew from what his character knew, and made a decision based on character knowledge only. Sure, he just got lanced by a foot-spike, but everyone is in the moment, committed to the story.
Fighting:
- The Metagamer plans an L-shaped ambush per Chapter 3–17 b. (2), FM7–8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad, adjusted to account for swords, spears, and bows instead of rifles, machineguns, and grenades.
- The regular gamer remembers his character barely knows which end of a sword to hold, and either lets the fighter plan the ambush, or just waits in the bushes by the trail for the target to get close.
I’ve been guilty of this several times. In my last game, I was literally planning an ambush for some hobgoblins before cutting myself off. “Nope, Katrina doesn’t know any of this,” and shut up.
Monsters:
- The Metagamer knows the weak-spot of the monster and slams it right off the bat, ruining what could have been an epic fight. He’s memorized the monster manual, and despite his character never before even hearing of this monster, he’s got it’s MO memorized.
- The regular gamer may or may not know about the monster, but fights it as his character would, because his character doesn’t know that it’s vulnerable to, say, cold.
In my last game, we fought a midlin-small red dragon. As it happened, Katrina had found a ring of fire resistance. Yay! And while I know that Red Dragons do not have a special vulnerability to cold, she assumed they did, and kept peppering it with Ray of Frost. And while it didn’t do extra damage, she did manage to distract it long enough for some teammates to get behind it, especially when it blasted her with fire and she just stood there and took it.
Leveling:
- When it’s time to level up, the Metagamer makes decisions based on mechanical advantage. He may multiclass or pick up feats based on what he thinks the next adventure will be, or just try to get the biggest ACC, AC, Dam, or whatever he can get. He may multiclass his fighter into a Paladin to pick up Smite, because he thinks they’ll be dealing with undead soon.
- The regular player levels up based on what makes the most sense for the character. He may also muticlass his fighter into a Paladin, but it’s because he found religion.
Now, for a counter-example. I was in a sci-fi game once, and our ship was damaged. The engines were non-responsive, but Engineering reported they were fully functional. I was playing the Engineer. I deduced that a micro-meteor hit had damaged the control lines, and that the cutout had failed to automatically re-route them to the backups, which I then went to go do manually.
I’m an electronics technician by trade, and I know a bit about naval architecture, and it since I was playing the Engineer, it was totally fine to use Murphy’s Player Knowledge for my Engineer Character. That was not bad metagaming.
Now, some forms of meta-gaming are worse than others. The leveling one doesn’t bother me too much. But other kinds can ruin other player’s fun, and that’s a problem. It cheats people out of the experience, and is goddamn frustrating as a GM.

- Somewhat new to emulation... what are your "must play" games that I can emulate?by /u/fixxxer2606 (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 2:54 pm
I have EmuDeck on my handheld and it has an overwhelming amount of emulators. I tried some PSP, PS2 and GBA games that I used to play back in the day but they didn't age that well. Any suggestions? submitted by /u/fixxxer2606 [link] [comments]
- Does the "Classic" MMORPG from shows/anime even exist?by /u/FullHealthCosplay (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 2:28 pm
I see so many of these isekia/fantasy anime that always focus around a concept in a game I think I would really love: joining a guild, taking up quests like a dungeon delve or a monster hunt and slowly slowly leveling up. I know there are tons of MMORPGs, and RPGs that allow this format, but in playing them it never feels the same as whats in those shows. They always potray 90-95% of the player base as mid level adventurers with only a few top tier rare S tier players, but in games i've played like FFXIV everyone is pretty quickly the max level and the dungeons aren't really about loot collection or anything. So my question is, is the MMORPG/RPG potrayed in the kinds of shows like Sword Art Online and other similar anime even exist? I love games with a slow burn mid-tier level, I feel like most get you on to the high-end tier quickly and kinda burn out. submitted by /u/FullHealthCosplay [link] [comments]
- The arcade racing game genre is in desperate need of innovation.by /u/nine16s (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 2:28 pm
I've been a fan of racing games my entire life, all the way back to playing San Francisco Rush on the PS1 when I was barely big enough to press all the buttons on the controller. I've seen and played pretty much every halfway decent racing game between then and now, and it's clear to me that the racing genre is staler than ever before. You can sum up the entire genre in one review: REDACTED is a brand new open world racing game in the long-running REDACTED series, beloved by many. In this entry, you'll be playing as a fully customizable silent protagonist in a lush open world where racing is celebrated, because it's a culture, and emphasizing that is important. You'll be accompanied by a female AI which speaks to you at random and sometimes ad nauseum who is here to "help you" by being a glorified GPS. She's overly enthusiastic and is more than happy to help you out as you traverse the city of REDACTED, a gorgeous tropical paradise where you can unleash your supercars at your own will. You'll start the game out driving one of the flagship models of REDACTED in order to get you situated with the island in a few tutorial races, where we'll show you the game's laughably minimal exposition that pretty much sums up to "island-wide car festival," where the police don't really exist at all. There's 46,853 cars for you to choose from, all of which you'll drive about twice for a specific event or two before it gets lost in the massive garage, because hey, quantity over quality, right? Who wants to bond with a specific car and tune it up to make it feel like yours, when EVERY car can be yours instead? Dotted around the island are various mini-challenges for you to complete, such as speed traps, drifts, and jumps, which are graded by a 3 star rating system. Also hidden around the map are wrecked vehicles, which you can find for cool classics with the help of an annoying radar ping! Also, don't forget about the other types of collectibles you'll be able to find around the map, just smash into them or press X to collect them for added goodies such as new vinyls, discounts, or free money! This is a feel-good type of racing game! Everybody is happy to see you, now go wreak complete havoc on the people who actually live here! Did you catch what game I'm referring to? Could it be The Crew: Motorfest? TDU Solar Crown? Need for Speed Unbound? Forza Horizon? The answer is *yes.* Ever since the first Test Drive Unlimited hit the shelves back in 2006, the arcade racing game genre has felt stagnant. There has been very little innovation in the genre since Forza Horizon came on the scene in 2012 and introduced the idea of the "festival racer," and while the games themselves objectively aren't too bad, why should they be worthy of my time? Even The Crew, an open world racing game series I genuinely enjoyed just due to the sheer scale of the map, is nothing more than Forza Horizon: Ubisoft Edition now. None of the games feel like they have balls whatsoever. They're so "pick up and play" casual that the games basically play themselves, especially Forza- a game that literally rewards you for NOT playing it with wheelspins- 10 to 20 at a time if you wait longer than a month. The genre is so soulless. submitted by /u/nine16s [link] [comments]
- The (Supposedly) Worst Years in Video Game History: 1995by /u/Typo_of_the_Dad (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 12:20 pm
Previous post: The Worst Years in Video Game History: 1983 1995 was a pivotal year in the history of video games - a time of experimentation, technological transition and true innovation, but also one tarnished by growing pains and industry struggles. It was a defining moment for several genres like JRPGs, RTS, 3D Fighting and Racing, and Adventure, and a year with groundbreaking if not always well aged visuals and storytelling techniques. It also lends itself to some reflection on the challenges that came with technological advances and market fragmentation, since these stood in stark contrast to growing customer confusion, frustrating hardware limitations, and sometimes unfulfilled promises of the 3D revolution. Let’s dive into the ups and downs that made 1995 a memorable year in gaming! https://preview.redd.it/w34bsxzfcyce1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=5d57a5313bb03c23b9156f811a31d226f0df214e Pros: The release of iconic games like Chrono Trigger, Full Throttle, Tactics Ogre, Terranigma and Suikoden (localized in 1996), "I Have no Mouth, and I Must Scream", Lufia II and Command & Conquer pushed storytelling and gameplay innovation to new heights. RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Tactics Ogre, Dragon Quest VI (in Japan) and Lufia II showcased deep narratives and advanced mechanics like combo attacks, city building elements, avoidable encounters, IP techniques (a precursor to the limit breaks in FF7) and monster raising. Groundbreaking PC titles like Command & Conquer, Warcraft II, Descent and MechWarrior 2 set new standards for real-time strategy, shooter and simulation games. Some of these also quickly became popular LAN and online MP games, though the internet was of course much less widespread at the time, and online gaming much less developed. This was instead a period when LAN parties were becoming popular. It was an experimental period where more genres transitioned from 2D to 3D (or a hybrid) than before, with games like Panzer Dragoon, MechWarrior 2 (3D graphics card and up to 1024x768 resolution support), Jumping Flash, Wipeout, Descent, Sega Rally Championship, Wing Commander III (PC, 1994/3DO, 1995) and Virtua Fighter 2 (ARC, 1994/SAT, 1995) paving the way for the future of 3D gaming. Fighting games like Virtua Fighter 2 (late 1994), Street Fighter Alpha and Vampire Hunter (in Japan), Tekken 1-2, Mortal Kombat 3 and Killer Instinct (in the US), and racing games like Daytona USA (mid 1994), Cruis'n USA (late 1994) and Sega Rally defined the arcade scene of 1995. Shoot 'em ups continued to evolve with games like Darius Gaiden (1996 in the west), Galactic Attack, DonPachi and Raiden Project being released, catering to arcade enthusiasts. Titles like Command & Conquer, Warcraft II, MechWarrior 2, Worms, Virtua Fighter 2 (SAT) and Full Throttle featured impressive and entertaining cutscenes, while games like Rayman, Astal, Street Fighter Alpha, Donpachi (ARC) and X-Men: Children Of The Atom showed what the next generation of consoles could do visually in 2D. The changing marketing style for platforms like the Playstation expanded the gaming audience, with still fondly remembered ads like the satirical SAPS society one. Demo discs became prevalent in the mid-90s. In 1995, magazines such as PSM and PC Gamer began including demo discs, letting players sample upcoming titles. Platformers like Yoshi's Island, DKC2, Rayman and Ristar showcased how the genre still had creative potential in 2D, and for 2D purists there were still plenty of new quality games to play. In the computer market, x86-based PCs had become ubiquitous in the west, leading to improved compatibility. With the release of Windows 95, which became the dominant OS in the following years (in Japan as well), PCs became more user-friendly thanks to its Start menu and Plug and Play features. Like them or not, FMV games and cutscenes had one their best years thanks to titles like Gabriel Knight 2, Command & Conquer and Phantasmagoria. Cons: 3D games still struggled to fully leverage the power of 32-bit consoles, and PCs as well. The PlayStation’s early years were marked by mediocre 3D games like Total Eclipse and Firestorm. The Sega Saturn lacked strong, groundbreaking titles outside of Sega's own efforts. Some of the better 3D games are also considered outdated compared to later games, such as Battle Arena Toshinden, Destruction Derby, Virtua Fighter or The Need for Speed. Fade to Black and Virtual Hydlide were failed 2D to 3D transitions. While 3D graphics cards were released for PC, they didn't quite take off until the next year with the 3DFX Voodoo 1 card. Twin-stick or even single stick analog controls were not yet released for consoles, resulting in unusual and often subpar control schemes for 3D games. It would take until 1996 for the Saturn and N64 to provide analog stick controllers, and until 1997 for the PS1 to receive the dual analog controller whose setup is still used today (by 1996, a few games did support the 1996 dual analog flight stick however). High development costs for 3D and ambitious projects put financial strain on smaller studios, and most developers needed time to learn the required skills for making great 3D games, resulting in some unpolished early titles. Market fragmentation with numerous competing platforms (PlayStation, Saturn, Windows-based PCs, 3DO, Jaguar, the 32X addon, etc.), the delayed Nintendo 64 and no backwards compatibility for the new consoles made customers hesitant to upgrade. Sega's surprise early Saturn launch made it less accessible in the US, and the lack of a proper 3D Sonic game disappointed fans. Windows 95 was pretty demanding for the time, most top PC games didn't require it yet, and there were some compatibility issues. This is all reflected in the sales numbers for 1995 in most regions. Some hyped yet mediocre (Gex, Virtua Fighter (SAT) which was followed by VF Remix months later in the west), and poor titles like Batman Forever, Street Fighter: The Movie and Revolution X (home ports) made it so that games like Super Turrican 2, Ristar and Alien Soldier were overlooked. Western audiences didn't get to experience various standout Japanese titles until later on, like Seiken Densetsu 3, Dragon Quest VI and SMT: Devil Summoner. Arcade gaming started declining in the west as home consoles became more capable and player expectations changed (they had been changing since the NES days), reducing the audience for and output of arcade games. Online gaming was not widespread due to slow connections (dial-up internet) and limited access. The lack of standardization in MP services (Westwood Online and Battle.net were introduced in 1996) and the slow internet adoption meant that online multiplayer games couldn't reach their full potential. The Virtual Boy was a case of poor hardware design, misleading marketing and a general lack of good games, but Nintendo were at least quick to discontinue it. Hardware limitations in older consoles like the SNES and Mega Drive limited the scope or performance of certain games like license-based games (usually uninspired side-scrollers), Road Rash 3, SimCity 2000 (SNES) and Comix Zone. --- In discussions about the worst years in gaming, or eras where most games haven't aged well, 1995 and the early fifth gen are mentioned now and then. Looking at the year as a whole, do you think it deserves the scorn it gets, or were its contributions to video games enough to redeem it? For me personally this was a great year. It's equally about the experimental aspects, which were mostly awesome to experience back in the day, as it is about polished 2D games like Yoshi's Island. Games like Warcraft 2 and Descent on PC, too. The former got me into LAN gaming for example. I even dig some of the VB games in retrospect. I did also play some stinkers like Rise of the Robots this year (late 1994 release on PC), but thankfully I didn't pay for it! submitted by /u/Typo_of_the_Dad [link] [comments]

- Actual statistics and facts of League of Legends F2P and Paid nerfsby /u/Cumcentrator (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 6:48 am
I saw post like this and thought to myself to paint the entire picture of what is happening. A few things to note: -Q: Why here? and not r/LeagueofLegends? A: That sub has been in permanent e-sports mode for years, most criticism of the game is instantly removed. You aren't even allowed to post bugs, Account or Riot support issues, technical or product issues, or anything that isn't esport/praising the game or Riot could be removed or locked for the most insane reasons ever. The sub has been in PR mode for years now. -The player reward nerfs have been an on-going thing since mid to late 2018 where every free, paid, and whale option has been getting worse and worse over time while prices of Riot points (LoL's in-game currency) has nearly DOUBLED!! This completely fucks over peoples ability to play the game, try out new characters, and breaks the reason for some of the core account features existence. Something on a much smaller scale has happened before. -Q: Isn't this a bug lmao? A: NO IT IS NOT A BUG. Part1 : Blue essence The cost of all the champions in the game with Mel (from arcane) would be exactly 531,985BE. The only non-paid source of BE is the "new and improved battle pass" that gives 4750BE + 4 champion capsules which on average gives you 500ish BE. There are 6 battle passes per YEAR. That means you get roughly 40,500BE annually...that's over 13 years of playing the game to own the CURRENT roster. Most people aren't no-life andies that grind 20 games per day to even get to the repeatable part of the BP which is beyond useless since it has a HARD CAP ON IT. Yes you read it right, you cannot infinitely grind the "infinitely repeatable" part of the BP due to BP EXP being a limited resource. Either play 13 years, buy an account with all champs, buy that XboxGamePass, or fork over 115,400RP which is about 740£ (900$). It cannot get worse right? Part 1.1: New accounts ranked eligibility To be able to play ranked in LoL you need your account to be level30, have played 10 normal games on Summoners rift, AND OWN 20 CHAMPS. How would new accounts/players ever become eligible for ranked if it takes an average Joe a couple of years to get 20 champs? Part 1.2: Clash Tickets Once every now and again, there are Clash events in league of legends. These are basically you and your friends vs other people in a tournament style ladder. The tickets for them come in 2 variety: basic and premium, only the basic version can be bought with BE and the rewards for it are abysmal at best. With the new system the amount of BE you make isn't enough to sustain the amount these tickets need. Meaning if you want to play with your friends sooner or later you need to open the wallet. Part 1.3: New account missions With the new update they have removed new account missions that gave a substantial amount of BE and account XP. Making the grind even worse. Part 2: Honour and Skill Before if you performed well enough , you would get rewarded with a Hextech chest. The idea was to encourage players to player better. To open the chests you need keys that you get from being positive or just not an asshole. The idea was to encourage player to be less toxic. Both of these together helped encourage players to play better and be less toxic, wasn't nearly enough since rewards weren't the root cause and the absolute lack of any real punishment was and still is. With 1 update they removed chests for playing well. In other words it doesn't even matter to not be an asshole any more, since both of you get 0 rewards thanks to chests now being behind a paywall. If anything being positive is worse, since now you get a bunch of keys in your inventory that you can't use unless you open your wallet. This is a dark pattern 100% and Intentional. Part 3: Mastery and time sink Before this incredible update, levelling up your account meant something. Now it means nothing and it represents nothing either. It's just an arbitrary number that goes up. Similar to another system called mastery, which was also worthless since there wasn't any real achievements or anything really tied to them and just another arbitrary number that went up forever. Part 4: They are still selling the useless stuff btw Now with account level being worthless, Level boosts are useless too. Since it was intentional to remove them and no trillion dollar company randomly removes multiple core reward mechanics out of nowhere without subbing something in, you'd think they'd remove the level boosts since they do literally nothing any more right? Nah keep'em in, who cares if people get scammed. Part 5: New "upto" 250$ gacha skin As it is common with en-shitification of products and services, they come up utter trash, overpriced products and make sure they use dark patterns do maximize sales. When you go to check your loot, you see the skin. In game the statue to the old 500$ skin is still there after months, that skin is unobtainable btw. Gacha, FoMo and Constant face shove tactics. Part 6: Abandoning previous systems In recent years they finally added an achievement/tacking system (yes the 5th tracking system in the game as if they didn't have enough). "We will keep the system updated with new achievement and trackers each season" It hasn't seen a single update for over 2 years... With the new season they added a bunch of new stuff and could you imagine that none of them got their achievement or even count towards the old ones? The situation has been getting worse over years but this update was just disgusting. There is no way they remove every possible way the players can earn ANYTHING at the same time and not fix or address it in hours. This is riot games, they have done 1 hour after update hotfixes before and they've alrady passed a balance hotfix. It is NOT A BUG, fully intentional. Do not recommend anyone to play this game under any circumstance. Utter shameful. Edit: Part 7: Small stuff -They changed summoner to some of the most ugly designs known to man kind. Not only are they ugly but their design doesn't fit the current item/chaampion/ui designs that they sit next to. -Ranked victorious skins went from being a proof of skill back in early seasons to... a participation trophy...just play 15 games now. No more get to gold rank. Part 8: Sneaky and Disingenuous Riot did not mention ANY OF THESE IN PATCH NOTES. AT ALL!! Just sneak change every thing. They even changed their FAQ page as the patch went out. Old New submitted by /u/Cumcentrator [link] [comments]

I have played a few over the years, but I don't think anything brought me as much joy as Marvel Heroes. the diversity of characters, the fact it was decently balanced. Only problem I have with it was the comic prestige thingy. I did that with Scarlet Witch and said never again. That was a chore to say the least. I also really liked Maplestory back when I was in highschool. Annoying other players with my dexless sin was always fun. But sadly the MTX hell hole it turned into breaks my heart. Though, thinking back on this, I think I would love Maplestory 20 years ago more than Marvel Heroes coming back, but only by a little. - Is Switch the only system where the best selling game on that system is a port or expended version of a previous generation game?by /u/Heavy-Possession2288 (r/gaming) on January 14, 2025 at 3:20 am
MarioKart 8 Deluxe is the best selling Switch game, and it's an expanded version of MarioKart 8 which launched on Wii U three years earlier. It got me thinking, is this the only time something like this has happened? Looking at Wikipedia lists I could find two other examples of games being the best selling game on their system despite not debuting there (Pac-Man on Atari 2600 and PUBG on Xbox One) but no other examples of a port, remaster ect. from the previous generation being system's best selling game. Just thought it was interesting to think about, I would've guessed maybe GTA V or Minecraft could've done it but they didn't. submitted by /u/Heavy-Possession2288 [link] [comments]

- I just finished Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice after somehow hearing nothing about it. It's changed me.by /u/Same_Adagio_1386 (r/gaming) on January 13, 2025 at 7:54 pm
This is going to be a long one, so I apologize. As the title states, I have no idea how, but I'd somehow heard absolutely nothing about this game since it's release. I'd seen a clip here or there of Senua walking around or swinging a sword, but that was about it. A friend of mine asked me if I'd played it and when I told her all of the above, she basically lit up with glee. A few days back she invited me over to play, insisting I do absolutely NO research into the game. I go into her dimly lit living room, she had the game paused in the first 2 seconds of the start. She tells me I'll be playing a game as a Celtic Seer venturing into the land of Nordic gods, hands me a controller and headphones and tells me to enjoy. Even just the first few moments with the voices basically breathing into my ears made me realize I was in for something special. I was so drawn in, hunting down the lorestones and patiently waiting for each to finish, feeling the tension and pressure created by the atmosphere, the audio and the visuals. I was thoroughly enjoying playing as this seer in a foreign land, experiencing her anxiety, fear and grief. I kept playing through, with my friend off to the side asking me to relay to her what the babbling and whispering and narration was saying. Just after finishing Valravn's trial.... It clicked. A genetic trait causing intense paranoia, depersonalisation, hallucinations, seeing faces in objects, feeling of rot/curse in the mind/soul, the clamouring voices all vying for control in her head and all with a different message to bring, of guilt/shame/doubt/fear/encouragement..... I realized suddenly it wasn't "seersight" at all. My friend must have noticed me noticed that the lightbulb had switched on in my head, because when I turned to her, she was basically vibrating with excitement. All I could say was "Holy. Fuck." Her only response was "I know, right?!" I ended up finishing most of it, then she lent me the disc and I played it the next day at home. I saw the psychosis warnings at the start this time, and went through the game again with this knowledge. But holy hell, was that EASILY the best way to be introduced to this game. Be explained the basic premise whilst having no knowledge of the intricacies of the plot, avoiding the warnings that are necessary, but do spoil the fact that it's not the gift of seersight that you're experiencing, but an accurate, honest and carefully crafted representation of schizophrenia/psychosis. It was absolutely mind-blowing, and that moment where the last gear in my head started turning was like pulling back the veil on a really sinister play. Having dealt with mild to moderate psychosis in the past (and no doubt will again in the future), my second start at the game had me up in my feelings for a LONG time. I started to notice a lot of the symptoms I share, and others that I get the inklings of, but never the full brunt. Kinda smacked my forehead a few times over the fact I didn't realize it sooner on my first playthrough hahaha. It just felt so incredibly validating and almost freeing to see all my personal, hidden and almost impossible to describe experiences represented in such a confronting and honest manner. I've asked my friend to borrow the game a little longer. I plan on giving my sister (who also knows nothing about the game) the same experience of starting as I did. I think it'll be helpful for her to be able to actually live (vicariously) and EXPERIENCE the symptoms her big brother goes through when I have my psychotic episodes, so she can better understand and contextualize what I go through in those times. Coming out of this game, I genuinely feel like a weight has lifted from me. I've talked to countless psych experts and teams, who all describe what I'm going through from a clinical perspective, not a lived perspective. I've also talked to others with psychosis, but the paranoia during an episode convinces me that they're lying and have just read about it in books. But this game, man. It sits in my soul as undeniable evidence that others out there go through this too, and that lifts so much weight of isolation and guilt from me that it genuinely makes my body and muscles feel lighter. This morning I watched the short doco about the making of the game. I can't commend or thank Ninja Theory enough for the time and care they took to approach such a stigamtised subject with love and care. TL:DR - Played the game knowing nothing about it, had a friend skip the warning screens and had a lightbulb moment that changed my life due to my own issues with psychosis. I plan to show others the game in a similar manner to help them understand what I go through. submitted by /u/Same_Adagio_1386 [link] [comments]

- Which open world games actually show you specific landmarks in the distance?by /u/Formal_Gain77 (r/gaming) on January 13, 2025 at 2:05 pm
It seems like almost any open world game when you go somewhere high to look at the vistas, you don't actually see major landmarks. Like a village in the distance, or a castle. Or it's a blurry LOD mess. You see a terrain, but major things actually appear when you get closer to them. Any exceptions? I want to see a location from very far away and then go there. Doesn't have to be open world, just big maps. submitted by /u/Formal_Gain77 [link] [comments]
