You know, a movie that is labeled as a drama or something other than a comedy but still cracks you up. Mine is easily Sling Blade. Doyle Hargreaves might be the funniest character in any movie, all time. He is endlessly quotable & hilarious. Anytime my wife harrasses me about anything remotely illegal or against the rules, I tell her, "The laws on my side! I loved The Abyss that but I've never seen it on the big screen and I'm super bummed I missed it during the theateical relase of the the 4k remaster, but i had work that day. I'm definitely getting the 4k Blu Ray but nothing beats seeing it on the big screen. I don't know why they just did one showing. Hopefully they'll re release it for the 40th aniversy in 2029. Which leads me to the next discussion I saw the Titanic 25th aniversy I watched a Fathom event of Raiders of the lost ark, I saw the Oldboy 20th aniversy re-release, do you guys like the re releases I personally do and I feel like it gives people like myself who weren't alive to watch these classics on the big screen to watch them. The movie is absolutely top notch. Killer performances from everyone across the board, including Madonna. The score from Danny Elfman kicks butt. The limited color palette is totally original and it feels like a precursor to Sin City in a lot of ways. There’s just so much to love about it. And talk about an ensemble cast. Just incredible! For me it would have to be when Captain America manages to summon mjolnir in avengers endgame. The theater just erupted. It seems as if everyone was just as invested as the characters of the movie at this point given the amount of movies that had been before it. When I went to the cinema to see endgame it might be the most phenomenal experience I've ever had at a movie theater. Here are two of mine. Jamie Foxx directing All Star Weekend. A screwbal racial comedy with Robert Downey Jr., Foxx, Eva Longoria, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Szohr, Jeremy Piven, Ken Jeong, and Gerard Butler. Foxx would play a racist white cop and RDJ would play a Mexican. Piven and Foxx are super fans of Steph Curry and LBJ, respectively. Some filming was done, not sure how much though. Foxx said he is never releasing the footage. Next, Barry Jenkins directing a time traveling Stevie Wonder movie. “The film was supposed to be made as part of a deal Jenkins had with Focus Features, where he was free to start work on any project he liked. It just so happened that his interests at the time involved iconic Black musicians and traveling back in time. He told Indie Wire, "Terence [Nance] was going to play a character loosely based on Madlib, and Solange [Knowles] played this free-thinking performance artist, and they both time-traveled back to 1972." However, after two years of work on the project, it never came to fruition even though Jenkins insists that, "it was really, really dope." In the aftermath of Medicine’s success, he wrote and developed a manic-sounding epic about “Stevie Wonder and time travel,” involving a mysterious mansion in Harlem and a vintage Moog synthesizer with magical, spacetime-altering properties. “My life was all about Stevie Wonder for like two years,” he says. Jenkins was working on the film with Focus Features, but it never panned out. For this, he blames only himself. “I think I just didn’t write a good enough script,” he says. “And after that didn’t work, I just needed to make a living.” (Thefader) For the life of me, I cannot understand why/how agents/executives/producers did not push for him to make this film post Moonlight instead of the lovely James Baldwin movie he did (that could have came later! What's the opposite for you? In Last Action Hero, Benedict comes home from doing Evil Bad Guy things. He hangs up his jacket to reveal this ridiculous handcannon holster, and swaps out his glass eye like a disposable contact lens. And he looks so damn tired. I rewatched “The Butterfly Effect” the other night for the first time in years. That movie made me feel a sense of unease, and some sort of fear that’s difficult for me to explain. The overall tone of the movie is grim, with flashes of humor sprinkled throughout. Just the thought of being able to go back and alter the past, for what you think is good, and possibly destroy your future/others lives along the way is something that made me, well, scared. As humans we always think of the “what ifs” from the things we have experienced in our lives. I watched 500 Days of Summer with my ex at the cinema. In the second half of the movie, in tears, he got up and walked out. He eventually came back in, but wouldn’t look at me. He could barely watch the rest of the film. I recently rewatched a few Ben Stiller flicks and the number one thing that stood out to me is that he was incredible fit. In Dodgeball and Tropic Thunder specifically, he was completely shredded. He gets a lot of praise for being underrated, he is a terrific actor, writer, and director, but putting in the time to look as good as he did couldn't have been easy with how busy his career was at the time. I know this isn't the most insightful post in the world, but it is something I haven't seen discussed much and I am impressed by the work he put in. After my viewing of the special re-release last night in a packed theatre, I can safely say that this movie is the most James Cameron a James Cameron movie will ever be. Almost all the ingredients you see on screen are prevalent throughout his entire filmography. Cutting edge, ahead of his time filmmaking by a man who almost killed some people in the process of making it, including himself. A movie so earnest and sincere in its themes and ideas with on-the-nose preachiness that only James Cameron can somehow make work. Actors turning in career best performances under difficult conditions with a effective, saccharine love story at the heart of the film and the ocean…just so much ocean. All the Cameron staples are here. Incredible action, gripping third act, corny ass dialogue that only Michael Biehn can make look cool, and blue lighting that makes the characters glow in an ethereal manner. There is so much technical wizardry on display here and the practical filmmaking is outrageous to the point you’re left wondering for half the movie how the fuck they shot any of this. And despite feeling like a movie so batshit crazy that it probably should’ve never been made, it somehow feels like James Cameron’s most personal film. There's that kind of movie that instantly and unexpectedly hooks us, and we know we must keep watching. To me, the best example only took like 2 minutes. It's The Lobster. I was immediately intrigued and I knew I had to keep watching. I've taken a look through a bunch of posts here and various listicles. Some of the famous final lines are amusing, e.g. "I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner...", or "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads!", but they're not huge laughs. Edit: Should have included the line: At the end of the film Barbie has chosen to permanently become a real human, and the scene is set up like she is headed to a job interview or something. I'm a little late to the whole Alien franchise, I just watched Prometheus and Covenant last night. Planning to watch the classic Alien next. He is simply amazing at portraying David and Walter as two completely different androids. They both lack emotional expression due to their android nature, but Michael can convey the hidden rage in David so well. Compared to the kinder and more innocent eyes of Walter.
