Google and Microsoft are both giant tech companies that offer great benefits and salaries to their employees. However, they also have strict work schedules and can be inflexible when it comes to new ideas. In contrast, startups are often much more flexible and allow employees to have a greater sense of ownership over their work. They also typically offer lower salaries and fewer benefits, but the trade-off is that you have the opportunity to be more creative and innovative. If you’re the type of person who likes to take risks and be rewarded for your creativity, then starting your own startup may be a better option for you than working for a large corporation.
Google, Microsoft, and Apple are all giant tech companies that started out as small startups. Google and Microsoft both began in the garage of their founders, while Apple was started in a basement. All three companies are now worth billions of dollars. But which is the better option for a software engineer: working for one of these huge companies, or starting your own startup?
There are pros and cons to both choices. Working for a big company like Google or Microsoft comes with a lot of perks. These companies can offer competitive salaries, great benefits, and the chance to work on cutting-edge projects. However, they can also be inflexible and bureaucratic. Startups, on the other hand, are much more nimble and offer the opportunity to be more creative. But they also come with more risks, as most startups fail within the first few years.
Google/Microsoft
Pros:
- Top-of-the-market salaries.
- Equity that is definitely going to be worth something once it vests.
- Insane perks.
- No risk. You have a very comfortable job that you can stay in for as long as you want.
- You get all the tools and help you need.
- You’re in a large community of like-minded engineers.
- Having a well-known brand on your CV opens up many career opportunities.
Cons:
- The work can be a bit mundane.
- There is bureaucracy and petty office politics.
- You have to answer to managers.
- You won’t have a huge impact on the company.
- It won’t make you rich. Just upper middle class.
- Large tech companies often have questionable ethics.
Startup
Pros:
- 2022 AWS Cloud Practitioner Certification CCP Practice Exam eBook at Google Play Store Here
- 2022 AWS Solutions Architect Associates SAA-C03 Certification Practice Tests and Quizzes illustrated
- 2022 Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900 Certification Exam Preparation
- You don’t have to answer to anyone (except your customers).
- It’s a very informal atmosphere.
- It’s exciting. You never know what’s going to happen to the company in the next few months.
- You have a huge impact on the success of the company.
- You pick up many new skills quickly.
- Building something from scratch is very rewarding.
- If the company succeeds, you will become filthy rich.
Cons:
- Lower salary.
- The company will most likely fail and your equity will be worthless.
- You’ll experience constant setbacks until you reach product-market fit.
- Your office perks are most likely limited to a coffee machine.
- You have to do everything yourself, including tasks that you hate.
- You’ll probably work longer hours.
To conclude:
Ultimately, it depends on what you want out of your career. If you want stability and the chance to work on some of the most innovative projects in the world, then working for a big tech company is the way to go. But if you’re willing to take on more risk in exchange for the chance to create something truly new and revolutionary, then starting your own startup may be the right path for you.
Some people tried everything from tiny startups to mid-sized companies to large behemoths. Based on experience, They’ve found that They very much enjoy working in startups, creating something new. But They’ve also been lucky to meet founders that value their skillset. It is always good to want to start your own company at some point, but the timing and idea has to be right.

- What would you think about Netflix (or other services) adding a commentary section?by /u/TheMykoMethod (Netflix) on August 17, 2022 at 8:04 pm
I often come away from documentaries wondering what other people made of it, or how they feel about the information presented. I've recently gone through the Untold series, and with such controversial stories I thought it would be interesting to see how some were perceived by its viewers. (Feel free to discuss in comments, if you also enjoyed this series) So now I'm curious what people would think about having comment sections on streaming services in general. Perhaps it would only be visible to people who have finished watching - to avoid any spoilers or spam, or maybe it could be utilized to provide the average rating of something you havnt watched yet, with the associated comments becoming visible once it's finished. I know Netflix has a rating system but I don't think it serves much purpose currently, and something like this could provide a much more transparent view of what may or may not be worth watching, or from a Netflix perspective - a better understanding of what their subscribers do or don't like about a title too. submitted by /u/TheMykoMethod [link] [comments]

- DOTA: Book 3 Discussionby /u/PBPunch (Netflix) on August 17, 2022 at 7:10 pm
I just recently finished Book 3 of the series and I wanted to post a discussion thread to see what others who have finished this latest season thought. I don't see a lot of communication on this subject and that makes me sad. This book was a serious improvement over book 2. I enjoyed book 2 but this recent collection was a better story all around. It may come from being a father myself but I understood the Invokers desire to risk everything for a chance to save his daughter. That central theme throughout the show has been well handled in my opinion. The fact that this book focused on the consequences of his actions and its inevitable conclusion was amazing. The animation seemed a bit more consistent and well done this book as well. Although the CGI is noticeable. It's was not bad to me. The pacing was better. Not perfect this round but better than previous books. I hope they have a chance to bring another book but I feel like this was a nice conclusion to the show. Sound and voice acting was excellent but they have been consistent in this department across the different books. If you've finished the newest book, what did you think? submitted by /u/PBPunch [link] [comments]

- How to Identify Already Watched Showsby /u/Djinn2522 (Netflix) on August 17, 2022 at 4:58 pm
Some explanation is required here... I listen to a lot of stand-up comedy on Netflix. Mind you, I watch very little. I download the video through the Netflix app (iPhone), and listen to it while driving, mowing the lawn, etc. So before I mow the lawn, I skim through the list of stand-up comedy specials. Until recently, the ones that I'd previously watched had a red underline beneath the video; the "watched progress" bar, telling me that I'd already listened to that particular special. Those bars are no longer displayed; I scroll through the list of shows, and I've no idea which ones I've already heard. Other that requesting the massive "Netflix Personal Information Report" which is extreme overkill, is there a simple way that one can turn on an indicator that shows what search results have already been watched? submitted by /u/Djinn2522 [link] [comments]

- I’m not sure how many want this, but I loved the battery case that came with iPhones before MagSafe battery pack.by /u/Agnosticpoopster (r/Apple: Unofficial Apple Community) on August 17, 2022 at 10:38 am
I used them with every iPhone since 7 and I miss them dearly. Clearly MagSafe battery pack has its advantages, size and ease of putting it and taking it off but apple battery cases were exceptional when it came to optimization. The battery of the phone remains on 100% till the battery case is dead and then the phone starts using its own battery. Amazing. It would be great to have the same thing for 13/12 or the upcoming iPhone series. I hope apple keep the MagSafe battery pack but bring back the battery case. That was straight up extended battery that felt part of your phone. No waste. submitted by /u/Agnosticpoopster [link] [comments]
