For years, fans of Stardew Valley have joked about breaking up Pelican Town’s couples and stealing away their favourite spouses. Now, creator Eric Barone has revealed that the idea is still sitting in the back of his mind, although it would come with consequences severe enough to turn the entire town against players. According to Barone, the idea is still very much hypothetical, but not entirely off the table. The developer explained that while he is morally against infidelity in real life, the sandbox nature of Stardew Valley makes him interested in systems that allow players to make questionable decisions and then live with the consequences. “I would be open to doing something like that,” Barone continued. “But I wouldn’t baby people about it. the video doesn’t need to be watched unless you want evidence but it’s easy to check yourself too…. just go check any story-related ‘generic’ character you can recruit like Silent Mastodon, Silent Basilisk, Panzer Buffalo… Gray Mongoose. you could keep track of any DD recruit but it’s probably fastest to just go recheck one of those set characters so their name/portrait/languages are static (exact same for every player, every file). and if you go back much later ? they’ll have learned other languages kinda a cool detail showing how DD soldiers grow together at Mother Base but mechanically, also a big deal if you take your time and put in a LOT of hours after you’ve reached Africa but don’t finish all the missions there as quickly you’ll have so many soldiers that speak all the languages submitted by /u/s1n0d3utscht3k [link] [comments]

CrossCode is one of those games that I always recommend to people when they want an indie RPG done right; it had a great mix of slick combat, exploration, and puzzles. That being said, the story was kinda only OK, and it does feel like it overstayed its welcome at some parts in the second half of the game. Still absolutely worth playing, IMO. I remember reading forever ago that the studio that made it, Radical Fish, was working on a new game, and saw that just a few days ago they released an Early Access version of it. The new game is "Alabaster Dawn," and aims to be a "spiritual sequel" to CrossCode, where they take what worked and add to it, and leave out what they weren't happy with. Apparently the current early access version only goes to the middle of the second chapter, and it's kind of pricey for a work in progress ($25, although there's a sale for 15% off on Steam at the moment), although there is a demo for free. But I was surprised I hadn't seen it mentioned here; or maybe I missed it? Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has tried out the demo or bought the game in early access and has any feedback, or comparisons between it and CrossCode. AKA games where you're a vigilante type character absolutely gunning through enemies that absolutely deserve it? I just saw the Punisher special, and at points it really felt like a video game. Got me itching to play something like it. The Punisher (2005) fits the bill but is quite graphically dated and annoying to get running on PC. Watch_Dogs (the first one) ticks that "vigilante justice" box nicely, but it doesn't hold much replay value in my opinion and again is from like 12 years ago. Mafia 3 was an outstanding revenge game, fun gun-play, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but that was 10 years ago so again, getting a bit dated. Tales of Symphonia starts off cozy comfy and of course ramps up to some intense stuff pretty early on. But the section surrounding Palmacosta and the Governor General-Dorr really brought home how writing is so important and character growth can be witnessed first hand. the first game was either good or bad, but the series just kept going downhill after has to be nothing but shit after the first game, so series that had a few good ones before the downfall and series where it had one good game sprinkled in between don't count here edit: if you're going to say Call of Duty, it better be said with a good reason why you think the original Modern Warfare trilogy was worse than Call of Duty 1 also, no technicalities, so comments that go "oh, well if you ignore x" or "well, if we start with y" don't belong here. 4Gamer: Arc System Works' fighting games seem to have substantial story modes. What about Marvel Fighting Spirit? Yamanaka: It's difficult to directly compare the volume of content to the story modes in other titles because the format is different, but in Marvel Fighting Spirit, you can enjoy a story using a motion comics style in a game mode called "Episode Mode." We had a manga artist draw the base manga, and then we added movement to each panel to advance the story, which is a fairly time-consuming way to present it. We have prepared five teams, and it has enough content to provide nearly 10 hours of gameplay in total. Yamanaka: From the beginning of the project, we decided that a story mode was absolutely necessary for casual players, and the only thing left to discuss was what form it should take. Marvel is all about comics, so we thought about how to make it interactively enjoyable, and that's how the idea of making comics move came about. By adding sound and movement to motion comics, we can also make use of the PS5's vibration function. 4Gamer: In episode mode, will there be any matches where the player controls the game in between? Yamanaka: No. Basically, once you start episode mode, the story will progress even if you leave it alone. You can fast-forward by pressing a button, or pause and enjoy the illustrations at your leisure, but it's designed to be enjoyed in the same way as reading a comic book. As an aside, recording the voices for episode mode was a challenge. In previous Arc System Works titles, we usually recorded about three languages, but this time we needed to record ten languages. However, I think being able to enjoy a fighting game in one's native language is a wonderful experience, so I would like to do my best to support it, with the help of SIE regarding localization. It's really disappointing how often fighting games skimp out on single player content and you would think with sony's backing maybe this would be different.
